In the past 2023, Google Pixel devices have really sprung up. Pixel phones are getting better and better, Pixel smartwatches are finally getting an appeal worth buying, and Pixel Buds are constantly improving. Overall, there's hardly much to complain about about the Pixel series.
However, one Pixel device stands out this year: the Google Pixel Tablet. Google decided to return to the tablet market in 2023, but as we know, this decision did not have the desired effect. When the tablet was launched in June, it received a variety of reviews, and my 5 rating was just one of the more negative.
I stopped using it after I posted my review of the pixel tablet on June 20th. But a month ago, I decided to reset it and see how it performs at the end of 2023 – and if my perspective changes.
Before giving Google some positive reviews, I'd like to give it a thumbs up for something it did right. The design of the tablet didn't initially interest me, but over time I began to appreciate its practicality. The nano-ceramic coating makes the Pixel Tablet very comfortable to hold in your hand, even with prolonged use. Even though I rarely pick up the pixel tablet, every time I pick it up, I love how it feels.
The Pixel Tablet also boasts a design feature that no other tablet in 2023 has: small rubber feet on the bottom frame. If you're placing your pixel tablet on a wall, water bottle, or other object, these feet can help keep it secure and avoid slipping. This feature is very useful when you want to do other things at the same time. I also can't understand why other companies don't do that. These feet also provide protection when the Pixel Tablet slips off the charging base......Although this still happens.
When it comes to the charging base, I still think it sounds very good (in terms of its features). I often use it for **youtube tv while cooking, and my satisfaction with the audio quality has never wavered. While this isn't a spectacular performance, it's much better than a regular tablet speaker.
However, these positive reviews don't mask the problems with the Pixel Tablet. Many aspects are still not as good as they could be, and it all starts with the hardware.
All of this is irritating, but it's not the main reason why I'm having so much pain with the pixel tablet. No, this award belongs to Google Assistant.
In short, Google Assistant is – to put it in one word – unreliable. There was not a single instance that was the straw that broke the camel's back, but a series of small problems that made me want to hit my head against the wall. One day, the pixel tablet ran a random Google search without me talking to my partner. When I asked the pixel tablet to tell me the score of the Sunday football game, it kept giving me googling results. When I unlock the screen and restart it, the score is displayed correctly. Asking a Pixel Tablet to control a smart light sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.
These complaints may be that my particular device is malfunctioning, but a quick search reveals that many other people have also expressed dissatisfaction with Google Assistant – whether it's about how it performs on the Nest Hub or on other Pixel devices. Google Assistant has been quietly going on in a state of instability for months, and it doesn't look like anything major will change anytime soon.
An unstable voice assistant isn't usually the fatal flaw of an Android tablet, but it's even more serious when your tablet is also expected to be a smart display. Using a pixel tablet is like dealing with a naughty child, and it's frustrating.
There's another ongoing problem: the dual role of the Google Pixel Tablet. As I pointed out in my review, I really like the concept of combining a tablet and a smart display. However, in actual use, it is a confusing experience.
Even after a few months, the Pixel Tablet still struggled to handle both roles at the same time. A small change in the command you propose to the assistant can lead to very different results.
For example, the *** issue I mentioned in my comment persists. If I.
