Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez joins Major League Soccer side Inter Miami for the 2024 season, reuniting with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The 36-year-old joined as a free agent after leaving Brazilian side Gremio.
I'm looking forward to reuniting with great friends and players," Suarez said.
Inter Miami's chief commercial officer Xavier Ascensi described the signing of the former Barcelona striker as "another landmark moment" for the club.
Suarez has won league titles with Nacional, Ajax and Atletico Madrid. In the 2023 season, he scored 17 goals in 33 games to help Gremio finish second in the Brazilian Primera A.
The veteran striker's performances have earned him the title of Player of the Year in the Brazilian Liga.
But his two-year contract with Gremio in 2022 was terminated early because Suarez felt unable to play another full season in Brazil due to knee problems and match distance.
Partly owned by former England captain David Beckham, Inter Miami signed Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba for the 2023 season, with the trio helping the team win their first trophy in the Carabao Cup in August.
Suarez added: "I am very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. ”
I can't wait to get started and I'm ready to work hard to achieve my dream of winning more trophies with this great club."
I am optimistic about what our shared ambition can achieve. ”
Suarez is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, winning four La Liga titles at Barcelona between 2015 and 2019 alongside Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The quartet was also a core member of Barcelona's UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup triumph in 2015.
Inter Miami finished second-to-last in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference last season.
They got off to a poor start under former England international Phil Neville, who was sacked in June, but the team began to recover with the arrival of Lionel Messi.
