According to the latest report from research institute Trendforce, Apple plans to launch a new Apple Watch Ultra in 2026 with a larger 212" Micro LED. The current Apple Watch Ultra 2 screen size is around 19 inches, the new model will increase the screen area by 10%.
Eric Chiou, senior vice president at Trendforce, analyzed Apple's progress in adopting new display technologies at the Display Technology Conference. He mentioned that the display panel of the next Apple Watch will use Micro LED as the display technology and will be larger than the current Apple Watch Ultra in size, reaching 212 inches.
The new display will be supplied by German LED giant AMS OSRAM with Micro LED chips smaller than 10x10um, while LG Display will be responsible for the mass transfer of chips, as well as the production of LTPO glass backsheets.
Despite Apple's strong negotiating power in the **chain, Eric Chiou expects the new panel to cost up to $120, which is 25 to 3 times**. Shipments are expected to reach the million-unit level in the first year of launch, spurring demand for Micro LED chips.
Lee Myung-hee, CEO of SAPIEN Semiconductor, emphasized: "We believe that the period for the Micro LED market to blossom and bear fruit is next year. Since the joint venture micro LED plant between Osram and Apple will start mass production next year, the French company, which is a major customer of SAPIEN Semiconductor, will also build a factory and start mass production. ”
