In the Spring Festival of 1949, Chiang Kai-shek encountered strange things, which can only be attributed to providence.
In the hearts of Chinese, the Spring Festival has always had a special status. This holiday is not only a time for family reunions, but also a day of national celebration. However, Chiang Kai-shek's last Spring Festival on the mainland was very depressing.
On January 21, 1949, he was forced to resign and leave the arena of power. On the surface, he handed over all the power to Li Zongren, but in fact, he was still manipulating in the shadows and holding the real power of the Kuomintang.
After going into the wilderness, he took his son back to his hometown in Fenghua, Zhejiang. However, on this particular Chinese New Year, a series of puzzling events took place. So, why did Chiang Kai-shek go into the wilderness?
What happened during the Spring Festival after he went into the wilderness?
Chiang Kai-shek was born into a merchant family, had a bold and intelligent personality, and showed outstanding talent when studying. With the help of nobles, he went to Japan to study Xi, and was appreciated by Sun Yat-sen, participating in many battles.
After the outbreak of the Xinhai Revolution, he returned to Shanghai. However, at the critical moment of the anti-Japanese war, Chiang Kai-shek pursued the policy of reassuring the outside world before securing the interior, and missed the best opportunity. It was not until after the Xi'an Incident that he was forced to agree to cooperate with the Communist Party in the fight against Japan.
The War of Liberation broke out shortly after the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and in the early days, the Kuomintang took advantage of the opportunity to deal a serious blow to our army. However, as the strength of the Communist Party grew and the people's hearts shifted, the Kuomintang began to retreat.
After the three major battles, our army gradually eliminated the main military forces of the Kuomintang, and Chiang Kai-shek was in a desperate situation politically and diplomatically. In November 1948, Chiang Kai-shek appealed to the United States for help, but received no response.
In December of the same year, Bai Chongxi, the head of the Gui faction, asked Chiang Kai-shek to arrange peace talks with the Communists as soon as possible.
The Kuomintang sent telegrams to Chiang Kai-shek, calling on him to resume peace talks with the Communist Party as soon as possible, and proposed to let Chiang Kai-shek go down to the field to promote the peace talks. On New Year's Day in 1949, Chiang Kai-shek issued a "New Year's Proclamation", expressing his willingness to negotiate peace with the Communist Party.
In reality, however, Chiang Kai-shek was not really willing to negotiate peace. Shortly after his publication, he exposed Chiang Kai-shek's conspiracy to negotiate peace and urged the Kuomintang to end the war as soon as possible.
Under such circumstances, Chiang Kai-shek was forced to retire and let Deputy Li Zongren take the position.
After Chiang Kai-shek retired to Fenghua, although he promised to hand over his powers, he did not get his wish. He continued to control the military and political power in the name of the president of the Kuomintang. On January 26, 1949, Chiang Kai-shek learned that Li Zongren had released his enemies Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, whom he had imprisoned for many years, in order to buy people's hearts.
Chiang Kai-shek wrote in his diary: "Li Zongren wanted to trap me in a predicament. Sure enough, on January 27, Li Zongren sent a telegram to *** for peace talks. Chiang Kai-shek was extremely angry about this, calling Li Zongren "shameless" and "brazen".
In order to stop Li Zongren, Chiang Kai-shek contacted his confidant Sun Ke and asked him to boycott Li Zongren together. Sun Ke immediately left Nanjing after receiving the order to serve Chiang Kai-shek.
When Sun Ke worked hard for Chiang Kai-shek and attacked Li Zongren, Chiang Kai-shek was not idle in his hometown. On the evening of the thirtieth day of the Chinese New Year's Eve, Chiang Kai-shek held a Chinese New Year's Eve feast in the auditorium of the Wuling Academy and sent New Year greetings to the people present in his mobilization speech.
He said: "The fate of the party and the state is closely related to the honor and disgrace of you and the livelihood of the people. It's not unusual for others to follow us when we go uphill, but when we go downhill, you still follow me steadfastly, and that's the most rare thing.
You have to come on, as long as we hold on to the Yangtze River and Shanghai, the United States will definitely send troops to help us. After speaking, he raised his glass and said to the officers present: "Cheers to the final victory of our great cause!"
Chiang Kai-shek knew that the Kuomintang had no power to return to heaven, and his words were only an attempt to inspire the soldiers around him. Although this lively Chinese New Year's Eve feast seemed lively, when it was over, Chiang Kai-shek returned to his room alone.
When he returned home, he gathered his children and grandchildren to his home to drink, eat Chinese New Year's Eve, and set off firecrackers for the New Year. Chiang Ching-kuo recorded the peculiarity of this day in his diary, saying that January 28 was Chinese New Year's Eve, and Chiang Kai-shek's entire family gathered at Feng Ho Fang to celebrate the New Year, and many senior Kuomintang ** also came to their homes to celebrate and send them New Year wishes.
In the festivals of the Fenghua countryside in Zhejiang, people will dance dragon lanterns and walk on stilts, and the joy of Chinese New Year's Eve also makes Chiang Kai-shek forget about the war for a while, and the whole family spends the New Year happily.
After this night, Chiang Kai-shek's mood was somewhat relieved.
On January 29, the early morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, Chiang Ching-kuo brought a group of friends to greet his father and say some blessings such as "Happy New Year, all the best".
After hearing this, Chiang Kai-shek had a complicated heart and sighed: "What will happen in the new year?"It's really unpredictable, but I hope that as everyone said, it will turn evil into good fortune. They then went to the mausoleum of Chiang Kai-shek's mother and took a group photo on the mountain.
After a day of excitement, Chiang Kai-shek's mood improved slightly. However, he did not expect a strange thing to happen next. On the second day of the Lunar New Year, Huang Shaogu came to Xikou at the invitation of Chiang Kai-shek, and after the two met, Chiang Kai-shek put forward his own idea and decided to move the party headquarters to the southern region first, and then carry out fundamental reforms.
After arranging the relevant matters, Chiang Kai-shek let Huang Shaogu leave.
After completing the ancestor worship ceremony, Chiang Kai-shek went to the Wushan Temple in Xikou to seek guidance from the gods. Since he was a child, he followed his mother to Buddhism and believed in these things. Surrounded by guards, he entered the Wushan Temple in a black robe, reverently lit incense and candles to pray, and then closed his eyes and picked up the lottery holder to ask for a signature.
He opened the lottery holder and saw that it was actually a middle lot, and the signature text read, "Careless Jingzhou, Guan Gong went to Maicheng". Seeing this sentence, he was uneasy in his heart, and asked for another signature, but the signature made him even more shocked, which read, "Trapped in Changbanpo, lost and fell into Fengcheng" and "The teacher is unfavorable, he lost his wife and widow, and he asked for a way out early".
Chiang Kai-shek looked at the sign in his hand, his heart was full of despair, he could barely stand, and almost fell. The surrounding guards were also shocked when they saw the signature, and hurriedly comforted him: "If you believe it, you will have it, and if you don't believe it, you will not have it."
However, this sentence did not make Chiang Kai-shek feel relieved, but made him even more angry. He said firmly: "Don't talk nonsense, the Bodhisattva of Wushan Temple is very effective.
In "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", carelessly losing Jingzhou and being trapped in Changbanpo are classic tragic stories, full of endless regrets. Chiang Kai-shek won these two draws in a row, and the probability was surprisingly small.
Everyone knows that Chiang Kai-shek went to the temple to ask for a signature, and Chiang Ching-kuo also made a lot of arrangements in order to make his father feel at ease. But why did Chiang Kai-shek ask for these two signatures?
Is this providential? He couldn't help but start worrying about the future of the Kuomintang.
Just when Chiang Kai-shek was worried, the party of the East China Field Army was very lively. A soldier who had switched from the Kuomintang to our army enthusiastically performed a program for those present called "Chiang Kai-shek's New Year."
He imitated Chiang Kai-shek's posture, holding a cane, holding a broken bowl, and singing: "The year before last, I attacked the year, I ate abalone and sea cucumber for the New Year, I lost the battle last year, and I ate three kinds of fried food for the New Year
Greens, radish, and chili sauce, seeing that this year is about to collapse, I can't even eat a bowl of tofu dregs." Listening to the words of this Kuomintang soldier, the soldiers in the audience couldn't help but laugh.
Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo both had a shadow in their hearts because of the strange thing of asking for a signature. On January 31, the third day of the Lunar New Year, Chiang Kai-shek, when writing this month's reflections, mentioned the reason for his own defeat, and he believed that the cause of the defeat was the Soviet Union, the United States, and even Britain.
On the afternoon of February 2, they set off from the mountain road and came to Fenghua County. Chiang Kai-shek felt a little uneasy because of the strange incident of the last time he asked for a visa, and realized that this might be his last time to revisit the old place, so he chose to walk instead of taking a car or a sedan chair.
In the process of revisiting his hometown, he told his children and grandchildren many ancient myths and legends, and at five o'clock in the afternoon, they came to the temple in Fenghua County to worship incense and worship Buddha. When he was a child, Chiang Kai-shek's mother often took him to a nearby monastery to worship incense and Buddha, which also had a special meaning for him.
However, this worship of the Buddha made his heart not calm for a long time.
Chiang Ching-kuo and Chiang Kai-shek spent the New Year in their hometown, which should have been a happy scene, but Chiang Kai-shek had a depressed life. On the surface, he is the real president of the black-box operation, but in fact, he has already begun to plan the defeat of Taiwan and is ready to start anew.
In order to stabilize people's hearts, he ordered a banquet to be held at Xikou and made the street lively. Although his entourage invited him to watch with him many times, he was disheartened and refused.
He went to Wuling School to watch a play, saying that he wanted to have fun with the people and celebrate the Spring Festival together, but he only watched it for ten minutes before he felt bored and left the scene. After returning to Fuzhong, he secretly ordered his subordinates to send cash from ** bank to Xiamen and Taiwan and other places.
When planning these things, Chiang Kai-shek still had the hope of a comeback, but history did not give him such an opportunity. With the People's Liberation Army crossing the Yangtze River, the Nanjing National** also withdrew from the stage of history.
In December 1949, Yunnan and Xikang provinces declared uprisings at the same time, completely crushing Chiang Kai-shek's plans for a comeback. On December 10, Chiang Kai-shek and his family fled to Taiwan in a hurry, never returning to the mainland.
During his days in Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek was depressed, and every Spring Festival, he would write many articles full of sadness and longing, and the words were full of the sorrow of Empress Li.
Perhaps when Chiang Kai-shek drew those two lots, his end was already doomed. It is not so much that Chiang Kai-shek's experience is a strange thing, but that he is to blame.
Chiang Kai-shek's last Spring Festival on the mainland, smiled and said to Song Meiling: "If it weren't for Bai Chongxi's help, I would have had a good year." However, he did not seize the opportunity of peace talks and eventually lost Taiwan.
In Taiwan, he still adheres to the illusion of being the mainland, and even blockaded Taiwan and banned exchanges between the people on both sides of the strait. This decision has brought untold suffering to the people on both sides of the strait.
We hope that Taiwan will be able to return to the embrace of the motherland at an early date, so that the wanderers on the other side of the strait can return home at an early date.
