In the long history of ancient China, there were many people who lacked creativity, especially those who did evil. In order to punish criminals more effectively, and to send a warning to society, various criminal laws have been developed, including a series of tortures that are still horrific to this day. For example, the punishment of cannon burning, the punishment of Ling Chi and the punishment of dividing the corpse of five horses, etc., these are all well-known ancient capital punishments. However, in addition to these well-known tortures, ancient monarchs also created some lesser-known and extremely cruel punishments, one of which was Zhu Yuanzhang's invention of Tijiaguan, also known as "suffocation".
Maybe everyone doesn't know much about this punishment, but in the high-profile "The Legend of Ruyi", it was mentioned that the two characters Wang Qin and Ling Yunche were given the punishment of sticking to the officials. The so-called sticker is to tie the criminal to a special torture bed, and then the ** who executes the punishment will cover the criminal's face with a piece of mulberry paper prepared in advance. **Contains a heated blade in the mouth, which sprays a fine mist when blown. This fine mist evenly soaks the mulberry paper, allowing it to slowly adhere to the criminal's face. If the offender confesses honestly, the punishment can be stopped by simply kicking his legs;Otherwise, the paper will continue to be covered. The purpose of this kind of torture is to silently take human life, usually leaving no living mouth.
Once the first sheet of mulberry paper is applied, the second sheet is covered, and so on until the paper is so thick that the offender cannot breathe, and then the offender dies of suffocation. During this process, the offender usually has a strong struggle reaction, starting with a struggle of the hands and feet, although he cannot shout, and gradually becomes unable to move due to the lack of air, until he dies. When the mulberry paper is about to dry, it is peeled off one by one, because the paper leaves a hideous face mark in the wetness and tossing, just like the role of a mask on the stage, so it is named "Paste Plus Official".
This punishment is often used for interrogations** or prisoners, and because of the slow process, each additional layer of interrogation is carried out, and the person is tortured in this way of suppressing his breath. Whenever we have a cold that causes nasal congestion, we all experience the pain of not being able to breathe, so this kind of criminal law is no less cruel than Ling Chi. Because the punishment process is quiet, it is difficult to detect obvious traces after execution, so it is more suitable for maintaining the royal majesty and the image of the royal family.
