Myanmar is located in the southwestern border of China and is known as the "country of pagodas" and "the country of jade". Myanmar has been in a mess lately. The Kokang Allied Army gathered the De'ang Army, the Rakhan Army, the Kachin Army, etc., a total of 150,000 people were killed in Kokang. At the same time, there have been military clashes in Rakhine State and other regions. Northern Myanmar has become an area of ongoing fighting, and there is no prospect of ending the unrest anytime soon.
Today, the war in northern Myanmar continues, and the various forces are intricately intertwined. I have to say that Myanmar, a bulk country, is really chaotic enough. Speaking of bulk countries, this is really a form of state formation. The so-called bulk state refers to the lack of political unity.
1. A state formed by a federation of regimes with little to no subordination. Examples such as India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar fall into this category. After India's independence, the states retained considerable autonomy despite the establishment of ***. India** has relatively weak control over the local level, with broad legislative, executive, and judicial autonomy at the state level. A similar situation exists in Myanmar. It's just that India is far more powerful than Myanmar. India is the world's fifth-largest economic power, one of the world's most powerful militarily and capable of launching satellites, while Myanmar is just an underdeveloped, military-ruled failed state. As a well-known bulk country, why is Myanmar inferior to India in every way?Myanmar is seriously inferior to India in six aspects: area, population, economy, military, external environment, and science and technology. Myanmar is located in the southeastern part of Southeast Asia, while India is located in the South Asian subcontinent. Myanmar is located in the northwest of the Indochina Peninsula in Asia, with a coastline of 2,832 kilometers. The land area is 6765.78 million square kilometers. It is bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west, with a coastline of 5,560 kilometers. The land area is about 2.98 million square kilometers. India is more than four times the size of Myanmar. In terms of population, India has a population of more than 1.4 billion, which is more than the Chinese population. Myanmar has a population of only 53 million people, one-third of India's population. In terms of economy, India's GDP is the fifth in the world, reaching more than 3 trillion US dollars, and it is the world's second largest software country and the world's largest outsourcing service contractor.
The gap in military science and technology is even greater. India's level of equipment is not only the first brother in South Asia, but also ranks first in the world. As of 2023, the total strength of the Indian army has reached 51320,000, of which 1.45 million are regular troops, making it the second largest number of active military personnel in the world. It is equipped with more than 4,600 main battle tanks, and more than 2,200 military aircraft are in service. In addition, India has aircraft carriers, as well as intercontinental missiles. And Myanmar has only 600 tanks, which are still old models, and the rest are old equipment. And the worst thing about Myanmar is the internal environment and the external environment. At present, India has often clashed with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue, but the risks are generally controllable, and there are no major powers around India that can threaten India. The northeastern states of India are in turmoil but generally manageable.
Myanmar is much worse. Myanmar is home to 135 ethnic groups, with ethnic minorities accounting for one-third of the country's total population and living in more than half of the country's land area. As a result, local self-government is largely carried out by different ethnic groups. In order to protect their own interests, they formed a large number of national armed forces, and their martial virtues were quite abundant. Myanmar has seven autonomous regions: Kachin State, Shan State (including Taungoo and Mongwan), Wa Cheng District (where the capital of Rakhine State was moved to Rakhine State), and Maguire County.
Almost all of them have their own armies, which can be described as a general situation in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The Burmese army relied on military power to rule large and medium-sized cities, but it did not have the strength to unify the whole country, and it was beyond the reach of the whip in remote areas, which led to warlords in the mountainous areas separating one side and attacking each other. So, on the surface, Myanmar is a unified country, but in fact it is a chicken and a dog. Therefore, Myanmar is not as good as India, but also as Vietnam and Cambodia. What they lack is a powerful leader and an advanced state system, without which the country is hopeless.
