Oxbow Reef is located on the Jiuzhang Reef. The Jiuzhang Reef is the island with the largest number of six reef islands in the Spratly Islands, and the situation here is more complicated. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Chinese fishermen have begun to take refuge from typhoons on Oxbow Reef. In 2021, the Philippines** reported that about 220 Chinese fishing boats took refuge in the Oxbow Reef to avoid a typhoon, and these fishing boats were lined up in a neat row, and our fishing boats achieved control of the Oxbow Reef. In 2023, the Philippine Coast Guard sent coast guard ships to drive away fishing boats stationed at Oxbow Reef, and the Philippine Coast Guard once sounded the horn to tell our fishing boats to leave, and Oxbow Reef itself belongs to the Nansha Islands and belongs to China's territory. At one point, the Philippines also set up buoys on Oxbow Reef. The Department of Transportation has also set up traffic buoys at Oxbow Reef, Huoai Reef and Gaven Reef as a countermeasure. Recently, the Philippines** also reported the appearance of 130 fishing boats in Oxbow Reef, which have been used as a base for rest and supplies.

At present, the Oxbow Reef is under the actual control of China, and Vietnam and the Philippines have repeatedly tried to provoke the incident of fishing boats on the Oxbow Reef to attract the attention of the world. The South China Sea, where Oxbow Reef is located, is also one of the world's most famous shipping lanes, located between the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and as many as 80,000 ships pass through these lanes every year. The South China Sea is also a hotspot for territorial disputes in the world. In 2011, Vietnam listed Oxbow Reef as one of the 13 islands and reefs in the Spratly Islands under China's actual control. The 13 islands and reefs are Gaven Reef, Dongmen Reef, Ximen Reef, Xinyi Reef, Half Moon Reef, Chigua Reef, Fiery Cross Reef, Huayang Reef, Subi Reef, Taiping Island (garrisoned by Taiwan), Anda Reef, Oxbow Reef, and Xianbin Reef. Oxbow Reef has the appearance of a sandbar with an area of 200 square meters, a length of 20 meters, and a width of 10 meters.
Spratly Islands. A large number of fishing boats have appeared on Oxbow Reef, and China can consider building a fishery administration base on Oxbow Reef. Vietnam invaded and occupied the west reef of China's Nansha Islands and built it into a fishery resource development center in the Nansha region. West Reef is an atoll with a length of 8 km from northeast to southwest and a width of 25 km, there are several separate reefs on the atoll. The depth of the West Lagoon is 11-18 meters. The West Reef can be accessed by fishing vessels of several hundred tons. In 2007, Vietnam began to build a wharf, cargo yard and seafood processing on West Reef, and Vietnam plans to build West Reef into a later center for the development of fishery resources in the Spratlys. Vietnam directly arranges for fishermen to bring seafood directly here for initial processing. Vietnam has also expanded the West Lagoon on a large scale, digging up soil from these lagoons to create artificial islands, which can accommodate 200 fishing boats. Vietnam's construction of the West Reef development model can allow our country to learn from Xi. At present, the South China Sea is one of the key fishing grounds of China's fishermen. In the past, the development of fishery resources in the four major fishing grounds showed a downward trend, and in the future, the fishery resources in the South China Sea are the main fishing bases of China's fishermen.

The Philippines is also the country that has occupied the most natural islands in the Nansha Islands, and the largest island occupied by the Philippines, Thitu Island, has also built Thitu Airport, which has a runway length of 1,500 meters and a width of 50 meters.
