About the exhibition

Primitive sun worship was born in the Neolithic period. One of the earliest forms of sun worship was to bow directly to the sun in the sky. During the Yaoshun period, the tribal alliance has formed a fixed ritual of worshiping the sun god, that is, "Yin Bin out day" and "Yin Na day". After the formation of the state, the primitive Sun Cult was combined with the royal power. In addition to continuing to perform the functions of the giver of light, warmth, and abundant abundance that existed during the period of the agricultural tribal alliance, the sun god also began to become the protector of the royal power (and the imperial power after the Qin Dynasty). Xia Wei called himself the day. Since the eighth Shangjiawei, the Shang tribe has taken the sun god as the protector god and worshiped the sun god as the sky.

In China's ancient books, such as oracle bone inscription and "Classic of Mountains and Seas", "Chu Ci", "Chinese", "Huainanzi", "Book of Poetry", "Book of Changes", etc., there are records about the belief in the sun god and the myth of the sun;By the Han Dynasty, the sun was called the "Sun Star";In the Song Dynasty's "Three Character Classic", there is a sentence "the three lights, the sun, the moon and the stars";At the end of the Ming Dynasty, "Kindergarten Qionglin" called the "Sun and Moon Five Stars" as the "Seven Politics". The belief in the sun god and its influence have continued from ancient times to the present day, and the current Shandong Rizhao Sun Cultural Festival is almost the "living fossil" of the ancient sun god worship, and some ethnic minorities still retain the rituals of worshipping the sun and worshiping the sky. On the occasion of the arrival of the New Year's Day, we have specially curated this exhibition to lead you to appreciate the sun culture that has been inherited for thousands of years, and to experience the breadth and profundity of traditional Chinese culture.
