Vietnam's "King Shrimp" Le Van Quang admitted: "Greed blinded me, in the past, the density of shrimp farming was 60-70 shrimp square meters, which brought high profits, but when the farming gradually increased to 120-350 shrimp square meters, the loss was serious." ”

Mr. Le Van Quang, General Manager of Minh Phu Aquatic Products Group Joint Stock Company, known as the "King of Shrimp", said that Vietnam's shrimp industry has been facing very serious diseases in the past 10 years.

"Recently, in 2022-2023, shrimp farmers suffered huge losses due to shrimp diseases, resulting in shrimp not being able to grow smoothly. This is also one of the reasons why shrimp farmers have suffered heavy losses and financial losses, and now more than 70% of the ponds in some areas are "hanging on the wall". ”

According to Mr. Le Van Quang, this makes it impossible to compete with Ecuador, India and Indonesia, as the cost of farming prawns in Vietnam, which is already very high.

On December 9, Mr. Le Van Quang (middle), General Manager of Minh Phu Aquatic Products Group Joint Stock Company, received leaders to visit the booth at the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ou Shrimp Festival.

1. Why is the ** shrimp in Vietnam more than twice as high as that in Ecuador?

According to Li Wenguang, the "king of shrimps", Ecuadorian shrimp seedlings have strong disease resistance and stress resistance, and are suitable for the carrying capacity of the environment, so their shrimp have been very resistant to disease in the past 20 years.

In Vietnam, disease-free, fast-growing shrimp fry are mainly farmed, but most shrimp die when released into an environment full of pathogensIf it grows too fast, it is less resistant to the weather and the environment, so the shrimp will also die.

Mr. Le Van Quang also explained that the cost of shrimp farming in Vietnam is 30% higher than in India, because the density of shrimp farming in India and Indonesia is only 60-70 square meters. At the same time, Vietnam breeds 200-250 square meters, hoping for high yield, low yield and high profit.

Shrimp King Li Van Quang admits that after more than 30 years of shrimp farming, he realized that "greed blinded him". That is, in the past, shrimp farming at a density of 60-70 shrimp square meters had a very high success rate and was very profitable. Since then, the breeding density has gradually increased to 120-350 square meters, the more the density of shrimp, the lower the survival rate, the current success rate of shrimp farming **40% below, many farmers lose more serious.

He reduced the culture density to 150 shrimp square meters and no more than 25kg cubic meters of carrying capacity, so the survival rate of shrimp increases to 775%, but still in the red. This is because the cost of farmed shrimp is currently high, but the price is still high compared to the above three countries (India, Indonesia, Ecuador).

Second, reduce the breeding density, breed larger shrimp, or another way out of shrimp farming.

King Shrimp" Li Wenguang shared his concerns: "Am I going to give up shrimp farming?I've got to figure out how to get over it. ”

According to Mr. Le Van Quang, he spent many sleepless nights with the experts, reviewing more than 50 techniques he had learned and tested to solve the shrimp farming puzzle at a cost equal to or lower than that of Ecuador.

At present, he has brought Mingfu Group to introduce biological shrimp farming technology and provide a variety of solutions, and has achieved good results.

Mr Le Van Quang shared, "Up to now, the longest pond has taken 100 days and the size of shrimp has reached 22-25 kgThe average pond is 90-95 days and can harvest 28-34 shrimp kg;The shortest ponds take only 55-65 days to harvest about 20-25 shrimp kg. ”

"King Prawn" Li Wenguang spoke at the meeting.

King Prawn "worries that in order to eliminate more than 70% of the area of farmers "hanging on the wall", the direction is to use biotechnology to cooperate in farming, provide insurance for farmers, and minimize risks.

Mr. Le Van Quang affirmed: "If there is shrimp farming insurance, farmers can only buy shrimp feed for about 27,000 VND**, instead of 35,000-40,000 VND as it is now." As a result, the cost of shrimp farming has been reduced by 25%. ”

At the meeting, Mr. Li Wenguang said that the development path of the shrimp industry is still difficult. Under the guidance and accompaniment of **, local governments at all levels, and with the cooperation of farmers, the cost of shrimp farming will definitely be lower than that of Ecuador.

"King Shrimp" predicts: "At that time, Vietnam will become the world's largest shrimp processing country, and many shrimp markets in the world will also be ours." ”
