The ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023 is the first mixed team World Cup held by the International Table Tennis Federation. On October 10, 2023, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) officially announced its decision to announce the first competition time and new rules and format, which is the first time in the history of table tennis to hold a mixed team competition, which is a milestone and groundbreaking.
The inaugural Mixed Team World Cup was held in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, from December 4 to 10, 2023, with a total of 18 teams participating. The Table Tennis Mixed Team World Cup is divided into 4 periods. A total of 18 teams participated in the competition, namely Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States.
According to the rules, each participating team will be composed of three to four players from each male and female team, and the order of each match is: Mixed Doubles, Women's Singles, Men's Singles, Women's Doubles Men's Doubles, Men's Doubles Women's Doubles, where the order of the last two sets of doubles matches will be decided by the captain of the lower-ranked team before the match, which adds to the strategy and suspense of the match. Each match is played in a best-of-15 format, in which each set is played in a three-inning format (meaning a full three rounds), and the team that wins the first eight games wins wins the game. Previously, the ITTF Executive Board announced that the Chengdu Mixed Team World Cup will give the ITTF individual world ranking points. The change of the world ranking points rules will increase the gold content of the team competition and make the first mixed team World Cup more enjoyable.
