Retrofitting an electric drivetrain to a classic motorcycle is not a new concept, but it is mostly a small-scale attempt. Recently, Mototherapy, a Parisian custom shop, launched its own modified electric motorcycle "R01", which has changed this situation to a certain extent. Mototherapy calls this conversion project "Ride Mercury", which uses the classic BMW R75 as a base, and has been carefully restored while retaining the original car's construction as much as possible, enhancing the practicality of "oil to electricity".
Based on the characteristics of the BMW R75, the Ride Mercury team designed a complete drivetrain, converting the engine of the original car into a 20kW electric motor, capable of delivering 340Nm of torque and 30HP to the rear wheels, without the need for a separate modification of the frame. In terms of battery, the maximum cruising range of the modified electric motorcycle is 150km, and the on-board 1The 8kW charger takes 6 hours to fully charge, but officials say that the fast charging scheme is advancing.
In terms of vehicle configuration, the Ride Mercury tuning team has upgraded the internal structure of the original headlights, while the digital instrument cluster connected to the motor controller has also been optimized. But the original tank is now just an empty shell, and the conversion team is ready to convert it into storage space, or install an upgraded charging port.
Because the R01 is now in the preliminary design stage, the layout of the vehicle is still changing, and now there are second-generation design results, and the modification team has adjusted the position of the "cylinder head" downwards and added ventilation devices.
At present, the Ride Mercury team will accept pre-orders for 29,500 euros (about 230,000 yuan)**, and the first batch of finished products will be shipped in the second quarter of next year.
