NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB GPU will launch in early 2024 with reduced specs than the 8 GB model it replaces. Back in October, we reported that Nvidia was working on a GeForce RTX 3050 model that would come with 6GB of VRAM and lower specs at the same time. Now it seems that there is more information about this special SKU specification on the China Board Forum.
According to the information, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU will be based on the GA107-325-KX SKU and will be powered by the PG173 SKU16 PCB. The GPU will be configured with 2048 cores, a 20% reduction compared to the 8 GB model. The core clock frequency will remain at 1470 MHz, which is 17% lower than the 8 GB model. In terms of video memory, we're seeing 6 GB VRAM and a 96-bit bus interface, which is also a drop from the original model's 8 GB VRAM and 128-bit bus interfaces.
The reduced size will result in some models no longer requiring external power supplies, and overall power consumption will also be slightly reduced, with this model expected to consume between 70 and 100 watts, with the quad display output capability retained, including three DP and one HDMI output.
It looks like Nvidia wants to have something for entry-level users because they get almost nothing in the RTX 40 series. The graphics card, which will likely cost under $200, will compete with the likes of the RX 6600 and ARC A580 A750 GPUs. It is reported that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 8 GB graphics card will be discontinued, and the 6GB graphics card will continue to maintain an entry-level positioning until it is finally replaced by a new product.
The RTX 3050 6GB is expected to be available in January 2024.
