Tesla, a U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer, announced on the 13th that it would recall about 2.03 million vehicles. This recall only affects vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.

The recall involves Autosteer models from model year 2012-2023 Model S, model year 2016-2023 Model X, model year 2017-2023 Model 3, and model year 2020-2023 Model Y. The recall notice says that in some cases, the feature may not be sufficient to prevent driver misoperation along with the accompanying control and alert functions.

The recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it had found a flaw in Tesla's self-driving safety system. The agency began investigating more than 10 traffic accidents involving Tesla's Autosteer feature in August 2021.

Tesla Inc. said it disagreed with the agency's engineering analysis of the Autosteer feature, but agreed to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles and provide free software updates. The update will "incorporate additional controls and alerts" and require drivers to remain responsible for driving when autopilot features are enabled.

A spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on the 13th that automation technology has great prospects in improving safety, but only if the technology is applied responsibly. The investigation into Tesla is still ongoing to monitor the effectiveness of Tesla's follow-up measures.

In February, Tesla recalled more than 360,000 vehicles due to its "Full Self-Driving" beta software, which increased the risk of crashes.
