After graduating from university in '81, I was assigned to work in a public institution, and retired in 18 years, with the title of technical level 5, plus my years of service in the countryside, the total working experience reached 44 years. On the issue of pensions, I would like to make the following observations:

Horizontal comparison: My county-based classmates include civil servants and enterprise employees. Compared to civil servants, although my basic salary may be higher than theirs in the workplace, they enjoy allowances, year-end performance bonuses, etc., and their total income is higher. However, after retirement, my pension is slightly higher than theirs, and the difference is not much, usually only a few hundred yuan.

Compared to the employees of enterprises, their pensions are quite different. The workers of large state-owned enterprises have relatively high salaries and pensions during their tenure, while most of the workers of county-run enterprises have been laid off, so their pensions after retirement are lower than mine, and the difference between the high and low is roughly about 2,000 yuan.

Longitudinal comparison: I have a higher pension compared to the same group of retired middle-aged people. However, my pension is lower compared to those who retired later than me. Generally speaking, the later a person retires, the higher his pension.

Therefore, there is a certain gap in pensions, and although this is not entirely reasonable, it is a form of fairness to the greatest extent. As retirement policies improve over time, the new generation of retirees may be treated more reasonably and generously.
