"Li" is a small scoop made of shells, and it also refers to a scoop in general. The idiom "to measure the sea" means to measure the sea with a small scoop, which is a metaphor for narrow-mindedness, but the problem discussed is very grand. Legend has it that Wen Qiao, a famous general of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, once crossed the Yangtze River from Niu Boiled Rock. It was evening, the sky was dark, and the river was unfathomable.
Wen Qiao ordered people to light rhinoceros horns for lighting.
After lighting the rhinoceros horn, the top and bottom are clear, and the amazing phenomenon appears in front of everyone's eyes. I saw that there were many strange-looking water monsters underwater, some wearing black, some wearing red, men and women, old and young, walking, horseback, and car, shuttling back and forth.
Underwater people were pointing at them, some children were terrified, and some were jumping up with their hands raised as if they were trying to extinguish the rhinoceros horns.
Wen Qiao and his entourage were equally frightened and uneasy, and sped up to cross the river.
Back at home, Wen Qiao still had palpitations. I had a nightmare when I slept at night, in which I saw a strange man dressed in black asking him viciously why he had lit rhinoceros horns to shine on them and disturb them. As he spoke, he jumped up and threw himself on him.
Wen Qiao was awakened, scared into a cold sweat, and soon fell ill and died.
Kan means "can" and "shade" means "shade". Both elm and locust trees provide shade.
"蹊" refers to the path. This sentence comes from Sima Qian's praise of Li Guang in the "Historical Records", "The peach and plum do not speak, and the bottom is its own", which means that the peach tree and the plum tree do not speak, but the bright flowers and sweet fruits attract people to come to watch, taste, and slowly step on the path under the tree.
Li Guang is a famous general of the Western Han Dynasty, he led the troops to fight against the Huns, fought more than 70 times in his life, and made outstanding achievements, but he was never proud of his achievements, and he loved soldiers like sons. Later, many of his subordinates were awarded the title of marquis for their merits, but he did not get the knighthood in the end, did not express any dissatisfaction, and did not insist on fighting.
After Li Guang's death, all the officers and men of the army wept bitterly, and the people also mourned. When Sima Qian wrote a biography to him, he praised him as "a peach and plum do not speak, and the next is a strange thing", which is a metaphor for a person who treats people sincerely and has a noble character, which will naturally move others and win respect and admiration.
