The water used in the Hakushu 1973 Distillery is snow melt water that flows down from the top of Mt. Tsugakoma in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, and the granite mountain with a height of nearly 3 kilometers is a natural filtration device, which is formed layer by layer: Shirakawa, the tail of the "100 Best Selections of Famous Water", which is used by the Hakushu Distillery to make Hakushu single malt whisky.
Scotch whisky has a water hardness of 100-40, while Oshirakawa water has a hardness of only 30, which is the key to the crisp and smooth taste of Hakushu single malt whisky.
