Maersk imposes an emergency risk surcharge on Israeli imports, CMA CGM raises the FAK on the Asia-Nordic, Mediterranean and North Africa routes, and Hapag-Lloyd raises the GRI on the Asia-Latin America route.
Charge an emergency risk surcharge for goods imported into Israel
Due to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the cost of insurance for ships bound for Israel continues**, and for this reason, Maersk announced that it will impose an emergency risk surcharge (ERS) on cargo discharged at Israeli ports.
The fee applies to all Israeli imports and will take effect on January 8, 2024.
The ERS criteria are:
All 20ft containers: $50 containers.
All 40ft, 45ft containers: $100 box.
Maersk said the surcharge will be used to cover additional insurance costs and ensure the sustainable operation of the Israel route. This surcharge will be removed when premiums return to normal levels.
Enhancement of FAK to Asia to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa
CMA CGM announced an increase in FAK on the Asia-Nordic, Mediterranean and North African routes, effective January 1, 2024.
The scope includes cargo from all Asian ports destined for all Nordic ports, as well as cargo from all Asian ports destined for the Western Mediterranean, Adriatic Sea, Eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, Syria, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

The GRI between Asia and Latin America was raised
Hapag-Lloyd announces an increase in freight rates (GRIs) from Asia to the West Coast of Latin America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and the East Coast of Latin America.
The new GRI will go into effect on January 1, 2024 and will apply to 20ft, 40ft dry containers, as well as 40ft high cube containers and 40ft non-operational reefers.
The criteria for this increase are:
20ft dry container: $500 container.
40ft dry container: $1000 container.
40ft HC: $1000 box.
40ft non-operational reefer: $1,000 container.

Asia: Chinese mainland, Macau, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Brunei.
Latin America West Coast, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, Latin America East Coast: Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay.
