This year marks the 84th anniversary of Bethune's death. In the early morning of November 12, 1939, Bethune died on the anti-Japanese front due to wound infection. On December 21 of the same year, ** wrote a memorial article "In Memory of Bethune" in memory of Bethune.

The article outlined Comrade Bethune's experience in coming to China to help the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japan, expressed deep condolences for Bethune's death, highly praised his spirit of internationalism, his spirit of benefiting others without self-interest, and his spirit of striving for technological excellence, and called on the whole party to learn from Comrade Bethune.

In October 1939, Bethune was undergoing surgery.

Later, this article became the "old three" to be memorized that year, together with two other articles from the same period of ***, "Serving the People" and "Yugong Moving Mountains". Bethune's name became a household name.

1967 commemorates the 27th anniversary of Bethune's publication.

But in fact, the day before he died, Bethune also wrote a suicide note to ***:

Dear Commander Nie:

I'm feeling very bad today, maybe I'm going to say goodbye to you forever! Please write a letter to Tim Booker, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Canada, at 10 Wellington Street, Toronto, Canada, with a copy to the International Committee for Aid to China and the Canadian Democratic Alliance. Tell them that I'm happy here and that my only hope is to contribute.

Also write a letter to the general secretary of the Communist Party of the United States, Blalauder, and send a captured sword. These letters can be written in Chinese and sent there for translation. Sent my **, diaries, and documents with the letter, and put them at the disposal of Tim Booker. All of these things were packed in a box with the $18 that Mr. Lindsey had given me. This box must be sturdy, tied and locked with a belt, plus three ropes. To Tim Booker and all my friends in Canada and the United States.

I asked the International Committee for China Aid to allocate a living allowance to my divorced wife, Mrs. Campbell, in installments. I owe a great deal of responsibility to her, and I must not abandon her because she has no money. And tell her that I was very guilty and that I was happy.

Two camp beds and two pairs of English leather shoes, you and Mrs. Nie can keep them. Riding boots and breeches, please hand them over to Commander Lu (Zhengcao). General He (Long) also gave him some souvenirs.

Two boxes for Minister Ye (Qingshan);18 kinds of equipment to Deputy Minister You.

15 kinds of instruments for Dr. Du;Principal Jiang of the Health School asked him to choose two items as souvenirs.

Typewriter and bandages Comrade Lang. Watch and mosquito nets to Comrade Pan.

A box of food and literature books for Comrade Dong is my New Year's gift to him, his wife, and the children.

Give my little ghost (Shao Yiping) and the cook (Lao Zhang) a blanket each, and a pair of Japanese leather shoes for the little ghost. Camera to Sha Fei.

Reservoirs and so on for the camera crew. Medical books and small alarm clocks to health schools.

Buy 250 pounds of quinine and 300 pounds of iron each year for malaria and anemia. Don't go to Baoding and Tianjin to buy medicines, where the price is twice as expensive as in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The last two years have been the happiest and most meaningful days of my life. I still have a lot to say to my comrades here, but I can't write it down any more. Let me send a thousandfold of gratitude to you and to millions of dear comrades.

Bethune.

On December 21, 1939, ** wrote an article "Learning from Bethune", pointing out:

What is the spirit of a foreigner, without self-interested motives, who regards the cause of the liberation of the Chinese people as his own? This is the spirit of internationalism and communism, and every member of the Communist Party of China should learn from this spirit. Comrade Bethune's spirit of benefiting others without self-interest is manifested in his extreme responsibility for his work and his extreme enthusiasm for comrades and the people. He has a career in medicine and strives for technical excellence. Let us all learn from his spirit of being free from selfishness; In the entire medical system of the Eighth Route Army, his medical skills are very clever. From this point of view, one can become a person who greatly benefits the people. A person has great or small abilities, but as long as he has this spirit, he is a noble person, a pure person, a moral person, a person who is free from low-level interests, and a person who is beneficial to the people.

This article was included in the second volume of the ** Anthology, entitled "In Memory of Bethune".

He was a member of the Communist Party of Canada, a thoracic surgeon, who traveled thousands of miles to China and saved countless lives during his 655 days in China. He saved both the legs of a three-year-old boy and a seriously wounded fighter. He converted the Dragon King Temple in the village into a field hospital. He has performed 115 surgeries in 69 hours with a success rate of more than 80%.

Comrade Bethune traveled thousands of miles to help our country in the War of Resistance Against Japan.

In the end, Bethune was buried on the west side of the martyrs' cemetery of the North China Military Region on Zhongshan Road, Shijiazhuang City, with a granite tomb base, the top of the tomb is semicircular, there is a white marble tombstone in front of the tomb, engraved "Doctor Bethune's Tomb", and there are Bethune's revolutionary activities in the corridor on both sides.

There is a full-length statue of Bethune in the square in front of the tomb.

In 2009, Chinese netizens selected the "Top Ten International Friends" on the Internet, and Bethune received the most votes.

In 1940, a wreath was laid at Bethune's tomb.
