Recently, the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha City, Hunan Province, issued an emergency notice, announcing that Zhang Chengyu, an intentional murderer who killed six people and injured two people, had been executed at the execution ground of the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha City, Hunan Province on November 24. This marks the final trial of an unsolved case that has lasted for 11 years.
According to the court's notice, Zhang Chengyu used to be known as Zhang Hucheng and was born on July 23, 1970. He was once a Class A wanted criminal by the Ministry of Public Security, and was on the run for 11 years before finally being arrested in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in December 2020.
The notice disclosed in detail the beginning and end of the Zhang Chengyu case. In the summer of 2009, Zhang Chengyu and his lover partnered to run a massage parlor in Changsha. However, due to the ongoing dispute with his lover, Zhang Chengyu repeatedly threatened the other party and involved the harassment and entanglement of the other party's family in Yangjiang, Guangdong.
In the early hours of August 2, 2009, a violent altercation and physical altercation broke out again. Zhang Chengyu believes that the staff in the store support his lover, including the lover's second, fourth, and sixth sisters, as well as a woman named Hu Moumou. With resentment, Zhang Chengyu decided to carry out the killing. At around 5 a.m., Zhang Chengyu attacked with rebar bars and kitchen knives while everyone was asleep, killing six people and injuring two others.
Zhang Chengyu fled quickly after the crime and became an A-level wanted criminal by the Ministry of Public Security, nicknamed "Dumb". According to reports, he rarely took the initiative to communicate with people during his time on the run, lived a low-key life, and had no regular job.
In December 2020, Zhang Chengyu was finally captured in Nanchang, Jiangxi. Subsequently, the Changsha Municipal People's Procuratorate prosecuted Zhang Chengyu for intentional homicide in accordance with the law in July 2021. In the first instance, the court sentenced Zhang Chengyu to death and deprived him of his political rights for life. Zhang Chengyu was dissatisfied with the first-instance verdict and appealed. However, the Hunan Provincial High People's Court upheld the death sentence after trial and reported it to the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China for approval in accordance with the law.
On November 24, 2013, Zhang Chengyu was escorted to the execution ground to be executed after his identity was identified in legal procedures. The execution of this verdict marks the final justice of Zhang Chengyu's case, and also brings some comfort to the victims' families and the public.
