According to The Telegraph, the UK's chief adviser said that foreign students who fail to achieve a high enough score may be barred from applying for a 2-year PSW graduate visa after graduation.
Currently, there are no restrictions on applying for a UK PSW Graduate visa, as long as you have successfully completed your studies at a UK university.
Once you get your PSW visa, you can legally stay in the UK for an additional two years, even if you don't have any work and just wander around the UK.
Moreover, the PSW visa is often used as a backdoor pathway to low-skilled jobs in the UK, which can be used as a springboard to high-paying jobs and give more international students who want to stay in the UK!
Due to immigration and other issues, PSW visas have actually been suspended for some time, and the recently reinstated 2-year PSW visa was promoted by former Prime Minister Boris;
At the time, the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) opposed this policy and advocated that the PSW visa should be for six months, and that if no job was found during that time, you should leave the UK.
In response to the current immigration issue, MAC President Professor Brian Bell said: "There are no specific requirements for test scores at UK universities" and "we will consider whether to add a score limit to the PSW visa."
Professor Bell said his committee would also look into whether to add other restrictions on international students applying for PSW visas, for example, that only graduates of certain universities with specific majors can apply for PSW visas after graduation, or that only graduates from certain types of jobs can apply for PSW visas.
