In the past two years, Xinjiang's Duku Highway has been very popular, and due to the lack of geographical knowledge, I also warned myself not to blindly follow the trend. In 1969, due to the need for national defense and war readiness, the Central Military Commission demanded that "Xinjiang should rely on the Tianshan Mountains to fight for a long time and independently." In 1974, the Central Military Commission dispatched a number of engineering corps into Xinjiang, and the construction of the Dushanzi-Kuqa highway officially began, which was basically completed after ten years. The total length of the Duku Highway is 561 kilometers, and the whole journey is 1 3 cliffs, and 1 5 sections are in the alpine permafrost. Due to the impact of winter snow and ice, the road is only open to traffic for five months a year, and during the peak tourist season in July and August, the road often becomes known as the "Crying Highway".

Kuqa, the starting point of the Duku Highway, went north from Kuqa at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the northern edge of the Tarim Basin, and officially started the journey of the Duku Highway. Soon after departure, I saw a large area of Yadan landform on both sides of the road, which was shocking. I remember that when I visited the Yadan landscape in Dunhuang, the entrance fee was expensive, the road was blocked and long, and the Yadan here seemed to be unattended. Continuing to move forward, I saw a large area of Danxia landform, of course, not as bright as Zhangye. The Tianshan Grand Canyon formed in the Danxia terrain has a number of shelters at the bottom of the valley to avoid sudden flash floods, indicating that this landform is eroded by flowing water. There are very few villages along the way, only a large number of coal mines, and a railway line dedicated to transporting coal.

The Kuqa Grand Canyon Highway of the Duku Highway winds its way through the mountains, and the mountain gradually slows down, and the alpine grassland landform begins to be seen. Then, to my astonishment, a vast prairie appeared. This is Bayinbrook, which covers an area of more than 20,000 square kilometers, is located in a basin surrounded by mountains, with an average altitude of about 2,000 meters, and is second only to the Hulunbuir grassland, the largest in China. It is dominated by alpine meadow grassland and alpine swamp wetland ecosystem, and the representative landscape is nine curves and eighteen bends. It is inhabited by Mongolians, who were originally the Turks who returned from the lower reaches of the Volga River during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and returned to China after hardships to settle here.

After crossing snow-capped mountains in the endless Bayinbrook steppe, the endless Bayinbrook steppe arrives at Nalati, the Mongolian word for place where the sun rises. There are large alpine grasslands and river valley grasslands, with snow-capped mountains, tall spruce forests and turquoise grasslands forming a layered landscape from top to bottom. Moreover, the colors are pure and transparent, and there is no variegation, just like an oil painting, and like a paradise in a dream, and I realized that the description of "Scenery of the Tianshan Mountains" is not exaggerated.

The rolling steppes of the Nalagan Mountains belong to the eastern end of the Ili River Valley, and in a broad sense, it is also a part of the Ili Basin, and the beauty of the region can be imagined from the beauty of the entire basin. At the end of the eighteenth century, after the Qing Dynasty pacified the Dzungaria, it included all the Ili Basin up to Lake Balkhash under its jurisdiction, and Ili was the geographical center of Xinjiang at this time, so the Ili General was set up. In the 19th century, a large area of territory was lost, but thanks to Zuo Zongtang's expedition with the coffin, the Ili River valley was recovered, but a large area of the Ili outer basin had fallen into the hands of the enemy. Since then, Ili has become a frontier city and is no longer suitable as a capital, and Almaty in the outer basin has gradually developed and is still the largest city in Kazakhstan. If it weren't for Zuo Zongtang, I'm afraid today's Nalati would also be an overseas tourist attraction.
