Mr. Shi (not his real name) is 71 years old and has been drinking more alcohol since his retirement due to his lack of activity and family misfortunes. He opened his eyes in the morning and began to drink, his family did not allow him to drink, he secretly looked for wine to drink, and he didn't get up to drink at the third watch in the middle of the night, and he didn't even eat when he drank. I was drunk at home all day long, and I fell down many times after getting drunk, causing trauma, and even having incontinence. Mr. Shi realized the disadvantages of alcoholism, and tried to quit drinking many times, but each time he failed, after stopping drinking, he was "itchy", felt flustered, trembling hands, sweating, and couldn't control looking for wine again.
Alcohol dependence syndrome.
These symptoms of Mr. Shi are called alcohol dependence syndrome, which is a special psychological state of alcohol craving caused by long-term repeated drinking, as well as special psychological and physical reactions after stopping drinking, which can occur continuously or periodically, including mental dependence and physical dependence.
Characteristics of alcohol dependence.
Have a strong craving for alcohol that you can't control.
Set a drinking pattern and drink at regular intervals.
Drinking alcohol above all activities, regardless of career, family, and social activities.
Gradual increase in tolerance and increased alcohol consumption; However, tolerance may decrease in the later stages of alcohol dependence, with less alcohol per session and more frequent drinking.
Recurrent withdrawal symptoms: withdrawal symptoms such as tremors in the hands, feet, and limbs, sweating, nausea, and vomiting occur when the patient reduces the amount of alcohol consumed or prolongs the drinking interval, and the plasma alcohol concentration decreases significantly. If alcohol is consumed promptly, the withdrawal symptoms disappear quickly. This phenomenon often occurs in the morning and is called the "morning drink" symptom.
Re-drinking after abstinence (e.g., re-drinking after abstinence) can lead to a return to the original state of dependence in a short period of time.
Experts remind. Dr. Liu Lei, from the Department of Addiction Medicine at the Qingdao Mental Health Center, reminded that alcohol dependence requires the help of professional alcohol rehabilitation institutions. Self-quitting alcohol at home is more likely to be repeated and more dangerous. Regardless of the severity of the withdrawal reaction, you should not carry it on your own, but seek medical attention in time to avoid complications.
