After more than three years of construction, the Military Road Expressway ushered in the final sprint stage, and it is planned to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024.
Military Road Expressway, from Yixian Road Military Road Interchange in the north, to Xiangyin Road Interchange in the South Ring, with a total length of 754 kilometers, the whole journey is in the form of elevated + ground auxiliary roads.
Judging from the map, the military road expressway and the Yixian Road elevated form a "human" shape, which will add a travel option for Baoshan Wusong and Songnan to Yangpu and Pudong, effectively alleviating the traffic pressure of the Yixian Road elevated.
Due to historical planning reasons, Shanghai's North Central Ring Road and North Inner Ring Road are very close to each other, with only about 500 meters apart at the narrowest point. Therefore, there has long been a plan for the northward lifting of the Central Ring Road, and the Jungong Road Expressway is the starting gun for the northward lifting of the Central Ring, extending the Central from Xiangyin Road to the north to the Yangtze River Road.
In the future, the Military Road Expressway will be formed into a new "North Central Ring Road" together with the planned Changjiang West Road Expressway and Hutai Road Expressway.
In addition to being part of the northward lift of the Central Ring Road, the Jungong Road Expressway is a key link in the north-south traffic of the urban area.
From the map, it is not difficult to see that the Jungong Road Expressway connects the Yat-sen Road Elevated and the eastern section of the Central Ring. As a result, in front of us is the second north-south transportation corridor in the urban area composed of Tongji Road Elevated + Yixian Road Elevated + Military Road Expressway + Central East Section (Military Road + Jinqiao Road) + Resort Elevated Road (Shenjiang Road). Starting from G1503 in Baoshan to Pudong Disneyland, the whole journey will be elevated and unimpeded.
This "corridor" connects Baoshan City, Yangpu Xinjiangwan City, Jinqiao Development Zone, Zhangjiang Science Park and Disney Resort, which will alleviate the traffic pressure in the Wujiaochang area and even have a certain diversion effect on the north-south viaduct.
Although at present, the Jungong Road Expressway is only an arc in the northeast corner of Yangpu District, it will have a significant impact on the traffic in the northeast of downtown Shanghai.
It is understood that the construction plan of the Yangtze River West Expressway has been put on the agenda, but the Hutai Road Expressway involves strategic reservations, and there are still many uncertainties, let us wait and see.
