The large-brimmed hat as a military hat originated in the early 19th century in the armies of Western powers. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Beiyang New Army reformed its military system, and its military uniforms were borrowed from the Eastern and Western powers, among which it was more influenced by its eastern neighbor Japan.
