Yan Yanan, the former director of the Datong County Museum, told reporters that the Ming Great Wall in Datong County is relatively intact, with rammed earth walls, enemy platforms, beacon towers, trenches, mountain walls, and river dangers. On November 26, 2020, the Ming Great Wall (Datong Section) in Qinghai was announced by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as the first batch of important sections of the National Great Wall. "Datong County has hired 17 Great Wall volunteer protectors to strengthen the protection and management of the Great Wall, and they will give us feedback in time if they have any problems in the usual management and maintenance. For these Great Wall walls that need to be repaired, we apply for project funds and carry out repairs. In 2013, the Datongming Great Wall was approved to be included in the list of the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units "Great Wall". In the same year, Datong County established the Great Wall Protection Agency, divided the Great Wall into 63 protection sections, and identified the responsibilities of enterprises and village committees along the route. In the past ten years, Datong County has won more than 20 million yuan of special funds to implement the Datong Ming Great Wall rescue and reinforcement project, and has carried out rescue and reinforcement of the Ming Great Wall wall, beacon and enemy platform that urgently need to be protected.
Tian Shenglong, 53 years old this year, lives in Shizhuang Village, Liangjiao Township, Datong County, and has watched his family take earth to build houses at the foot of the Great Wall since he was a child. When Tian Shenglong was a child, he also used to take soil at the foot of the Great Wall to lay the foundation for building a house for his family. In 2015, he became a volunteer protector of the Great Wall, where his main job was to protect the beacon tower of the Great Wall. He told reporters, "Last year, after someone took soil and I reported it to the above, the people from above stopped the excavation together with the village cadres, indicating that they would no longer be allowed to take soil." ”
In order to better protect and rationally use the site of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China's excellent traditional culture, up to now, Qinghai Province has invested more than 100 million yuan in a number of Great Wall protection projects such as Xining Section, Datong Section and Huangzhong Section, which have carried out rescue and reinforcement of the Great Wall itself, strengthened infrastructure construction, effectively eliminated the danger of the Great Wall itself, and improved the environmental landscape of the Great Wall.
The Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty in Datong County, as an important part of the Great Wall, is a precious historical material for studying the politics, economy and military of the Ming Dynasty.
