On December 18, 2023 local time, PowerChina and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia officially signed a construction contract for the Riakwa Dam project in Indonesia. Bob, Director General of the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia, and Alkalan, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, attended the signing ceremony. Amir, the project leader of the owner, and Guo Xiaodan, the Indonesian national representative of PowerChina, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.
In his speech, Director Bob spoke highly of PowerChina's strong technical strength and comprehensive capabilities, expressed his appreciation for PowerChina's long-term achievements in the field of water conservancy construction in Indonesia, and looked forward to the continuation of good relations and fruitful results in the cooperation between the two sides in the Riakwa Dam project. He said that the Riakwa Dam in Indonesia is an important livelihood project under the framework of cooperation between China and Indonesia, and after completion, it will effectively improve the flood control and water supply capacity of South Kalimantan, promote agricultural development, increase agricultural income, and bring benefits to the local people.
Guo Xiaodan thanked the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia for its trust and support to PowerChina, and said that PowerChina will continue to give full play to its own advantages, actively invest high-quality resources, ensure that the project is completed on schedule and with high quality, and make greater contributions to the development of economic and trade cooperation between China and Indonesia with high-quality performance.
The Riakwa Dam Project is located in the Bangar region of South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The main construction content of the project includes the main dam, auxiliary dam, spillway, diversion tunnel, dissipation pool, water intake, road and bridge engineering and gold junction mechanical and electrical engineering, etc., the main dam is a clay core wall rockfill dam, the maximum dam height is 51 meters, and the dam crest is 490 meters long. The project uses preferential buyer's credit funds provided by China** through the Export-Import Bank of China. The successful signing of the project is another achievement of the in-depth docking of the Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia's "Global Maritime Fulcrum" strategy.
