On December 12, Cao Xuetao, deputy director of the National Health Commission, said that since the "14th Five-Year Plan", China's food safety governance has made positive progress, with the number of foodborne disease outbreaks falling by 11% and the number of deaths falling by 339%。

Cao Xuetao introduced that China has implemented the national food safety risk monitoring plan, in-depth analysis of risk monitoring database information, according to the incidence and evolution trend of foodborne diseases, draw national food safety risk maps in different regions and different risk categories, guide all localities to release risk early warning information in a timely manner, and remind the public to purchase and store food reasonably.

Li Ning, director of the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, said that in recent years, the National Health Commission has also established three major systems: the National Foodborne Disease Surveillance and Reporting System, the Foodborne Disease Outbreak Monitoring System and the Foodborne Disease Molecular Traceability Network, to play a role in risk monitoring, assessment and early warning, and effectively prevent systemic risks.

Foodborne illnesses occurring in households and food service establishments account for 50% and 46% of all foodborne illness occurrences, respectively3%, so home and food service establishments are the focus of foodborne disease prevention and control. Li Ning said that foodborne disease reporting also needs to extend the monitoring tentacles and sentinel points from hospitals to schools, communities and pharmacies, so that foodborne diseases can be detected early, reported early and warned early.

In the next step, the National Health Commission will guide all localities to do detailed risk monitoring and assessment research and judgment work, and plan to achieve online direct reporting of foodborne disease cases in public medical institutions above the second level in China by the end of next year, and with the help of big data, cloud computing and other information technologies, improve the multi-point trigger monitoring and early warning model, so as to make regional risk early warning more sensitive and efficient.
