In the winter of 1948, artillery roared and bullets rained down on this land in Chenji Town, Huaiyuan County.
Seventy-five years ago, the Northwest Bengxi Resistance Battle was fought in the Huaiyuan area, and this battle was an important part of the Huaihai Campaign. During the 14-day blockade battle in the northwest of Beng, the Kuomintang army dispatched eight infantry divisions and a tank brigade to attack the PLA positions day and night with the support of the air force. Under the stubborn resistance of the People's Liberation Army, the farthest advance of the Kuomintang army was less than 35 kilometers, and the closest was less than 15 kilometers, and the daily progress was only one or two to three or four miles, ranging from five or six miles, and it was very large. In the Northwest Resistance Battle of Beng, the People's Liberation Army annihilated the Kuomintang Army 130,000 people ensured the victory of the Central Plains Field Army in encircling and annihilating the Huang Wei Corps.
Seventy-five years later, Chen Jizhen has witnessed countless heroic struggles in the long river of history, influencing generations of young people to strive for progress.

On November 23, 1948, when the Huaihai Campaign reached the second stage, the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign adopted the deployment of "eating one, clamping one, and watching one", that is, to "watch" the two corps of Li Yannian and Liu Ruming stationed in Bengbu, and to "clamp" one of Du Yuming's corps, and to "eat" Huang Wei's corps in one fell swoop.
At that time, the Bengbu area was the main battlefield of the southern front of the Huaihai Campaign, and it was the strategic defense point of the Kuomintang to "defend the river and defend the Huai". "On November 28, Huang Wei had no hope of 'breaking through' under the ironclad encirclement of the Nakano copper wall. In order to rescue Huang Wei's corps, Chiang Kai-shek ordered Li Yannian and Liu Ruming's corps to go for reinforcements. Zhu Xueyin, director of the Party History and Local History Research Office of the Municipal Party Committee, said that on 4 December, with the cooperation of planes and chariots, the Li and Liu Corps concentrated eight divisions from the Huaiyuan line in Bengbu to cross the Beihe River and launch a fierce attack on our army's blocking position.
The Northwest Resistance Battle of Bengxi has officially begun!
Due to the enemy's frantic attack, our army was extremely heavy and the defense line was precarious. At the critical moment, the 11th Division of the Bohai Column, as a reserve, was ordered to enter the battlefield. Before the battle, the division commander Fu Jize said when he issued the task: "I have 3 regiments, and I would rather fight one regiment every day than block the task in 3 days!"”
After the battle began, the 11th Division of the Bohai Column used counter-assault tactics to get mixed up with the enemy, so that the enemy's planes could not play a role. The battle was extremely fierce, the soldiers fought with bayonets when they ran out of bullets, and smashed them with stones when the bayonets were broken, and in three days, the 11th Division of the Bohai Column was firmly nailed to the position, blocking the enemy in front of the position with flesh and blood.
On December 9, the 1st Regiment of the Henan-Anhui Soviet Military Region entered the blocking position around Xiaoji in the northeast of Baoji, and while building fortifications, it repelled the charge of Li Yannian's department. The 1st Regiment successfully delayed its advance to the north for a day and night, and the Kuomintang army had more than 390 people, but our army also paid the price of more than 200 people and 9 villages.
A breach was torn open in the line of defense, and the battle entered an even more brutal stage. Covered by 12 aircraft, 18 tanks, two howitzer groups, and numerous mountain artillery and mortars, the enemy poured into the defensive positions like a tide.

Zhu Xueyin said that some of the martyrs who died in the battle were transported by four-wheeled vehicles by Huaiyuan County to Yongfo, Chenji, Daqiao and other villages in Chenji Town for burial. Today, the heroic souls of these heroes are buried in the Huaihai Battle Northwest Resistance War Martyrs Cemetery in Chenji Town, Huaiyuan County.

The first heavy snow of the winter of 2023 brought the dust on the tombstones, and the names of the martyrs became more and more shining. For the sake of this precious name, Nian Jietao ran on the road of finding relatives for the martyrs, gathered the scattered starlight into a spiritual torch, and injected a strong warmth into the hearts of the martyrs.
The people who buried the bodies of the martyrs put the blue bricks or seals of the martyrs with the names of the martyrs next to the remains of the martyrs, leaving a valuable 'mark' for the later search for the martyrs' relatives. Nian Jietao said that in 2010, he volunteered to participate in the survey of the revolutionary sites in Chenji Town, which lasted more than 4 months, visited more than 100 people before and after, and found 83 tombs of unknown martyrs. In June 2013, Chenjizhen relocated 83 tombs of unknown martyrs to the martyrs' cemetery, during which bricks or seals with the names of the martyrs were found, and the names of 18 unknown martyrs were restored.
One name after another, like a magical stone, stirred up layers of ripples in Nian Jietao's heart, and he was secretly determined to help these martyrs find their families.
Just relying on the information of the martyrs on the green bricks and seals of the year, the road to finding relatives is not easy to follow. Over the years, Nian Jietao has summed up a set of "magic weapons" for finding relatives. "Check the party history and military history materials, look for information through the martyrs' memorial halls and martyrs' cemeteries related to the Huaihai Campaign, send a letter of help to the local **, and contact relevant departments and even relatives and friends across the country to help find or find clues. Nian Jietao said that he had also spent several years checking the list of more than 100,000 martyrs in 70 counties and cities in the Bohai Rim region on the Chinese martyrs' website. By the end of 2023, Nian Jietao has successfully found the hometowns and relatives of 30 martyrs with extraordinary and unimaginable efforts, of which 27 are martyrs who participated in the Huaihai Campaign.
After the identity of the unknown martyrs was confirmed, the relevant departments of Huaiyuan County began to erect a monument for them. On the newly erected tombstone, the martyr's name, ancestral hometown, unit number, time of sacrifice and sacrifice process are clearly engraved.
Sun Jinlian, born in 1926, enlisted in the army in 1947, was a soldier of the 11th Division and 19th Regiment of the Bohai Column of the East China Field Army before his death. In June 2013, he was buried in the Unknown Martyrs Cemetery on the north side of the Bengxi Northwest Resistance War Martyrs Cemetery. In 2019, Nian Jietao successfully searched for the martyr Sun Jinlian and restored his name. "I was 12 years old, and I still remember the back of my brother Sun Jinlian when he joined the army and left home. Looking at Sun Jinlian's name on the tombstone, her sister Sun Xiurong couldn't hide her excitement.
The years return to the mountains and seas, and the mountains and seas hide respect. "After the monument is erected, their deeds can be understood by the people, and the relatives of the martyrs can find a place to mourn. I will do my best to restore the name of the unknown martyr and find the relatives of the famous martyr to the end. Although it is already a rare year, Nian Jietao still has not stopped searching.
Red empowerment writes a new chapter in rural revitalization

Nian Jiewen's rich life is just a microcosm of the life of the people in Chen Jizhen.
