In a conversation last night, I had a controversial topic with a high school teacher friend: Is it possible for students to achieve a counterattack in the third year of high school? This issue involves many aspects such as educational equity, students' attitudes and abilities towards learning, etc.
A teacher friend believes that only students in the top 20% of their class are likely to make a comeback in the third year of high school. He explained that this ranking is based on the assessment of students' IQ and basic knowledge. These students may not have given their all-out during their freshman and sophomore years of high school, but their IQs and basic knowledge are in the upper middle range. As long as they put in more effort and study more diligently in the third year of high school, it is possible to achieve a counterattack.
However, this view has also sparked some controversy. On the one hand, it seems to ignore the potential of students who have already put in great efforts in their freshman and sophomore years, but are not in the top 20% of their grades. On the other hand, it also implies that only students with high IQs and a good foundation have a chance to fight back, which may make some students with lower grades feel hopeless.
In fact, learning at the high school level is very different from the middle and primary school levels. It not only requires students to have a certain IQ and basic knowledge, but also requires them to master effective learning methods and have enough diligence and perseverance. Therefore, even if a student's grades in the first and second years of high school are not satisfactory, as long as he can find a suitable learning method in the third year of high school and put in enough effort, it is possible to achieve a counterattack.
However, this is not to say that students who are bottom of the rankings have no chance of fighting back. In fact, many successful cases of counterattacks prove this. The key is that these students need to find out what their problems are, develop a reasonable study plan, and implement it consistently.
In general, it is not impossible to counterattack in the third year of high school, but it is not an easy task either. It requires students to have a certain IQ and basic knowledge, and more importantly, they need to have the right learning methods and firm determination. For every student, regardless of their current ranking, it is possible for them to achieve their dream of counterattack as long as they are willing to put in the effort.
