Ban Gu's fame was extremely prominent in ancient times, not only because he was the compiler of the Book of Han, an indispensable masterpiece in Chinese history, but also because his younger brother Ban Chao and sister Ban Zhao were also high-profile figures. Ban Chao gave up literature and chose to join the army, and fought with the Xiongnu, Xianbei and other ethnic groups in the frontier all his life, and made great contributions to maintaining peace in the frontier. After Ban Gu's death, Ban Zhao took over the completion of the last chapter of the Book of Han, and lectured to the empress dowagers in the court to assist the Empress Dowager Deng in handling government affairs. They are like the three Sus of the later Song Dynasty, and they have become the envy of countless families.
By today's standards, Bangu is definitely a leader in talent. At the age of 9, he had a talent for literature and poetry, and at the age of 16, he entered Luoyang Taixue for further study. However, due to the early death of his father Ban Biao, his poor family and the lack of family protection, Ban Chao failed to devote himself to the creation of history books. As the eldest son in the family, he had to embark on the road of job hunting. At that time, the most ideal career was **, but his self-recommendation to Liu Cang, the king of Dongping, was unsuccessful, and most of his talent recommendation suggestions were adopted, which can be described as a stolen idea. This experience also cast a shadow in Bangu's heart.
Despite repeated setbacks in his job search, Bangu was not discouraged. He insisted on continuing to write the History of the Han Dynasty at home. However, when he was 30 years old, he was again exposed to the unfortunate incident of being accused of studying history privately, which led to imprisonment for serious crimes and possibly death. At this time, Ban Chao adopted a drastic way of suing the emperor in the capital and successfully attracted the attention of Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty. Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty was very amazed after reading the "Book of Han", thinking that the writing was excellent, so he ordered the release of Ban Gu, and named him the Lantai Lingshi, specifically responsible for the royal history work, not only to engage in the beloved career, but also to obtain a golden rice bowl, as Lao Tzu said that the law of blessing and misfortune depend on each other.
Ban Gu is known as a milestone in the academic field of the Eastern Han Dynasty. He is not only proficient in the compilation of historical books, but also good at writing texts, especially known for "Liangdu Fu". As a theorist of scripture, he compiled the "White Tiger Tongyi", which gathered the pinnacle of scripture at that time, and systematized and codified the theological theory of Zhenwei.
However, Ban Gu was not satisfied with his academic achievements, he was dissatisfied with the low official position, and was eager to make a breakthrough in his career. So, at the age of 57, he chose to take refuge in Dou Xian, who was powerful at that time, and participated in the northern expedition against the Xiongnu with Dou Xian, and was named the Central Protector Army and participated in government affairs.
From Dou Xian's point of view, the power of his relatives needs the support of celebrities. Although Dou Xian was a relative, he was unequivocal in his fight against the Xiongnu, and he successfully defeated the Northern Xiongnu and made great achievements. Ban Gu wrote the praise of "Ode to General Dou's Northern Expedition", which became the "criminal evidence" that was later implicated. After Dou Xian's northern expedition against the Xiongnu, Ban Gu became his staff. However, at this time, Dou Xian had already become a thorn in the emperor's eyes.
In 92 AD, Dou Xian was framed to death by the emperor. Ban Gu ** was imprisoned, and although he was famous in the literary world, he was framed by his enemy Luoyang Lingchongjing, and finally died in prison, failing to complete the "Book of Han". Although Bangu's life was full of talent, it was really regrettable that he took his life because of the ruthlessness of the power struggle.
