British sports car manufacturer Lotus plans to launch a 450kW network of ultra-fast EV chargers in Europe next summer. The first charging stations are scheduled to go live in the middle of next year, while the first chargers are already in use in China. With a power rating of up to 450kW, these chargers are among the fastest chargers available. Lotus says the chargers are capable of adding 88 miles of range to its flagship Lotus Eletre R in "about five minutes."
The network is expected to expand to "most European countries" as well as the Middle East from the second quarter of 2024. Alan Wang, Vice President of Lotus Technology and CEO of Lotus Flash Charge, said that the demand for reliable EV charging infrastructure is rising due to increased investment in net-zero emissions by countries**. He emphasized that Lotus has developed best-in-class fast charging solutions to meet the growing market demand.
Lotus has made it clear that the new liquid-cooled EV solution will be open to any EV, including other brands and models. Currently, they have launched the Eletre SUV, while the Emeya electric GT has also been released, with plans for a smaller SUV model. In addition, Lotus plans to become a pure electric vehicle brand by 2028.
In addition to the public network, lotus has also introduced a liquid-cooled power cabinet that will operate alongside its high-power chargers. This setup will allow the site to provide peak power during times of high demand and can be used with Lotus' liquid cooler charging unit, which can charge up to four EVs at the same time.
