The number of black-necked cranes in Dashanbao, Yunnan Province has reached a record high, with monitoring showing that the number of black-necked cranes wintering this year has reached 2,342, an increase of 82 cranes from the same period last year and the highest number since its establishment in 1990. This record innovation occurred on November 25, when the black-necked crane was photographed in the Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve in Yunnan Province.
The black-necked crane, known as the "bird giant panda", is a national first-class key protected wild animal. Located in Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, this sanctuary is one of the most abundant for black-necked cranes. Since its establishment, it has gradually become the most important wintering habitat and migratory transit point for black-necked cranes on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
According to Li Shijun, a senior engineer at the Management and Conservation Bureau of the Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, the first batch of wintering black-necked cranes this year arrived in the area from November 2, reaching the peak of the migration season on November 27.
In recent years, the reserve has taken active management and conservation measures, including wetland protection and restoration, compensation for wetland ecological benefits, and the construction of food source bases, and is committed to promoting the steady improvement of the ecological environment of the reserve to ensure the safety of migratory birds such as black-necked cranes during wintering. These measures have paid off, with the number of black-necked cranes remaining above 1,500 for nearly three years, and the number and variety of other wintering birds steadily increasing.
This breakthrough is an affirmation of the ecological work of the reserve, and also a testimony to the consensus on the protection of these precious birds.
