The 2023 "Industrial Bank Cup" Shanghai City Amateur League "Xujiahui Cup" and the 4th Shanghai Recreation Ball Championship (Xuhui) recently kicked off at the Xujiahui Community Cultural Activity Center.
The competition is a recreational ball individual competition (25 subs), the rules and regulations of the competition are implemented in accordance with the Shanghai Billiards Association's "Recreational Ball Competition Measures", and 48 Shanghai recreational ball masters are fighting against each other to compete for the honor of the new annual "municipal mold". In addition to the old faces on the field, there are also many young new faces added to this competition. This seemingly relaxing and entertaining recreational ball actually has to walk around the table several times per game. At the scene of the game, the contestants watched intently on the tables with round holes around the four corners, and they were eager to try and hit the round ball into the round hole with their clubs. One of the contestants said that through such a city-level competition, it is the greatest comfort for the people who love sports to inherit and carry forward this traditional and classic sports in Shanghai
In recent years, in accordance with the requirements of the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau's "National Fitness", the Shanghai Billiards Association has innovated and integrated the classic "alley game" and "road game" of recreational ball, and has made improvements and efforts in terms of competition rules, equipment standards, promotion models and other aspects, and has achieved remarkable results. In the past two years, the recreational ball project has continued to enter communities, schools and enterprises, making this "alley game" that was popular in Shanghai at that time glow with new life and vitality. In 2020, under the care of the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau and the Shanghai Sports Federation, the former "road game" finally entered the hall and was listed as one of the competitions of the 3rd Shanghai Municipal Sports Games, and thus ushered in the first city-wide recreational ball championship in Shanghai, which is of great significance to the development of recreational ball in Shanghai.
It is reported that Xuhui will continue to build municipal and district-level brand events to pass on this traditional and classic sport in Shanghai.
