Liechtenstein's royal family said in a statement on Wednesday that Prince Constantin, the youngest son of Liechtenstein Crown Prince Hans-Adam II, died suddenly this week. He was 51 years old.
"The royal family regrets to announce the unexpected death of Prince Konstantin of Liechtenstein on December 5, 2023," the statement said. ”
Constantin is the seventh in line to the throne. The statement did not provide a cause of death.
Constantin's eldest brother, the hereditary prince Alois, was destined to succeed Hans-Adam II as the ruling prince of Liechtenstein, a small country nestled between Austria and Switzerland with nearly 40,000 inhabitants.
Konstantin (Constantin) left behind his wife, Princess Mary of Liechtenstein, and his children, Prince Moritz, Princess Georgina and Prince Benedict.
According to the statement, he also serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Liechtenstein Group, the world's largest royal private banking and asset management group.
The local newspaper The Waltland reported that after Konstantin's death, the state legislature held a minute of silence in which Apostolic Administrator Benno Elbs paid his respects to the royal family.
