In 1976, two of my comrades-in-arms and I enlisted in the army from Zhengzhou at the same time. Nowadays, we each have a new life in a different field. I transferred to the provincial party committee to serve as a deputy department-level position, and later retiredZhao Dongfang, chief of staff of the regiment, was transferred to the county bus company as a manager, and has also reached retirement age;Liu Juncheng, who has an eighth-level professional and technical background, chose to choose his own job, and now he is the owner of his own material factory, and his hair has turned gray. As I grew older, I often recalled my experiences over the decades, especially the other two comrades-in-arms with whom I was close, and many emotions welled up in my heart. First, let's look back at what we experienced when we were in the army. In late November 1975, Liu Juncheng and I were in the queue in Xin'an County when we suddenly heard the news of the conscription. At that time, the two of us were educated youths from the Huanghe Road street in Zhengzhou, and we had been in the queue in Tiemen Commune for two years. We live in the homes of the villagers and are treated like family. The villagers treat us as their own children, always giving us food first when they have something to eat at home, and we try our best to help the village do some work to repay the villagers' love. That winter, 30 acres of land to the south of the village needed to be plowed because long-term farming had depleted the fertility and nutrients of the top layer of the soil.
So we, as the tractor drivers of the brigade, drove the tractor day and night, and completed the task of turning the ground in the shortest time. The generous villagers served us with white flour steamed buns, shredded radish and vermicelli. This is a rarity for the villagers, as they usually only eat white noodles during the Chinese New Year. When the villagers learned that we wanted to join the army, they gave us great support, brought us food, and urged us to go back to Zhengzhou as soon as possible to sign up. As we left the village, the captain and the villagers flocked to our house to say goodbye. The villagers are like our parents, nurturing us foreign youths with their love! After returning to Zhengzhou, both of us signed up to join the army. Liu Juncheng, who lives in Xinzheng County, is a child of my uncle's family, and I heard that he also joined the army. About 20 days later, we completed all the military inspection procedures and received our brand new green uniforms but did not receive the badge and cap badge. On December 17, after we met at the Zhengzhou Railway Station Square, Liu Juncheng and I took the train to different destinations, he went to a unit in Sichuan, and Zhao Dongfang went to Beijing. On the train to Sichuan, the cadres gave us a stipend of 5 yuan per person, and I put the money into my underwear pocket, which was the first time I had come into contact with so much money.
After 3 months of recruit training, we were assigned to the same regiment, but not in the same company. I went into the reconnaissance company, and Liu Juncheng went into the artillery company, but we still saw each other often. Three years later, I was promoted to squad leader, and because of my excellent training results, I was selected to participate in the reserve cadre training brigade. Unexpectedly, Liu Juncheng was also selected to the training brigade. By March 1980, both of us were appointed as administrative 23-level platoon commanders with a monthly salary of 52 yuan. In the following ten years, I was transferred to other units, while Liu Juncheng worked in the artillery regiment, and later he even became the regiment's chief of staff. Interestingly, my wife was introduced to me by Liu Juncheng's wife, and our two families corresponded frequently. However, due to my slower job transfer and promotion, I was still only a battalion commander when he was transferred to deputy regimental commander in 1998. As for Zhao Dongfang, he was assigned to an army research institute after his recruit training. As a subordinate warrior, he participated in scientific research experiments and was awarded a third-class meritorious service for his outstanding performance in many experiments. In 1981, he was selected to study at the military academy for two years, and after graduation, he returned to the institute and became a scientific researcher.
In the years that followed, he worked with his colleagues in the project team on a material research topic. Their hard work paid off, two of which were awarded the Army's Science and Technology Progress Award, and he himself was awarded the title of Grade 8 Professional and Technical Rank and Engineer. It's all the result of hard work, opportunity, hard work, and perseverance, and we thrive. The situation of the three of us after changing jobs was different. In 2001, Liu Juncheng and I changed jobs together, when my wife was working in a provincial government. After passing the examination, I entered a department of the provincial party committee with the second overall score and became a section-level cadre. During my work in the provincial party committee, I was strict with myself, promoted from a section-level cadre to a deputy department level and a department level, successively served as a leader in three departments, and served as a director of a certain center for eight years. In 2017, I retired from the deputy department level and enjoyed a pension of more than 9,000 yuan. Liu Juncheng, a member of my team, was assigned to the bus company in the district after changing jobs, and was later appointed as the manager. At first, I was confused by his choices, but I understood that many decisions in life were not in my control. Perhaps he chose the bus company for many reasons that could not be disclosed.
However, once he got to the bus company, with a little learning and adaptation as a battalion commander in the army and rich management experience, he was promoted to bus company manager. Under his leadership, the bus company has standardized its services and has become an advanced unit in the district for more than ten consecutive years, and he has been rated as a municipal and provincial model worker. In 2018, he retired as a manager of a bus company, enjoying a monthly pension of 4,500 yuan. In 2002, Zhao Dongfang, who changed jobs with us, also left the army, but he chose to choose his own career. Some people choose to choose their own careers after retirement, so that they can use their expertise to do something beneficial to society. They are able to use their pension to start a business and can also enjoy a free lifestyle. After retirement, people can choose to travel, literature, or do business to live the life they love. For some, life after retirement is full of colorful options. For example, some people choose to travel after retirement, and their footprints are all over the country and abroad. They can sit back and enjoy their free time traveling.
In addition to this, some people have also chosen literary creation, such as practicing and writing at home, and through unremitting study and practice, they have even won many awards in the university for the elderly, and some of their works have been published in newspapers. However, retirement is not all smooth sailing. Some people choose to start their own businesses after retirement, such as Liu Juncheng. Taking advantage of the convenience of his home, he opened a small shop with insufficient pension. Unfortunately, however, the death of his wife in the third year of retirement left him with a noticeably less mental head than before. On the other hand, it is not easy to start a business, such as Zhao Dongfang, who joined a new materials company after retirement and finally chose to start his own business. However, due to market and operational problems, the company has repeatedly encountered crises, and he has to put his pension into it and lay off employees to keep the company running. Whether it's free travel, writing a book, or starting a business, retirement is full of choices and challenges, but it's also another kind of excitement in life. After a difficult period, his situation has improved somewhat. However, the gray hair on his head has increased significantly, and his face has aged a lot.
Still, he feels in good spirits because he says the company is currently on the rise. When he first chose to start his own business, he planted a seed in his heart: most people choose to accept the job arranged by the state, but I chose to start a business. After more than twenty years of military training, I am capable, and I will do well! This seed has not withered with the growth of years. He has been following the path of starting his own business, although he has quite a bit of a pension. Seeing Zhao Dongfang, I deeply realized the meaning of such a sentence: How can you see a rainbow without experiencing wind and rain! In the end, the working time of life is only thirty or forty years. In these years, the choice of jobs was very limited, such as farmers, workers, and joining the army, and only then did the option of going to university be available. As for which one to choose, it is the result of a combination of factors, which contains too much chance and helplessness. It was also a coincidence that we were able to become soldiers;Being able to become a cadre is the result of organizational training, leadership care and self-effort. If we lacked any of these, we would not be where we are today. We are grateful to those who have helped us, and we should be most grateful to the people's army and that great era!
The crossroads of life are not the only ones, among the many choices, how we should choose, and what we should choose, all depend on what is best for us at that time. Don't be overjoyed, and don't be overly sad. There is no regret medicine to take in life, regret is useless, and complaining is pointless. We should pay for the choices we made in the first place! Maybe someone else will do my job, maybe someone else will do a better job than me. No matter how capable you are, acknowledge the importance of the platform. People's success and value should not only be measured by the level of their position, but should comprehensively consider the work they have done for society, for others, and for their families, the wealth they have created, and the light and heat of dedication. This kind of comprehensive consideration can more comprehensively evaluate a person's contributions and achievements. See the world in all kinds of articles first challenge .
