In ancient times, people did not understand the origin of natural phenomena such as wind, rain, thunder and lightning, and they were in awe of these phenomena, and even endowed them with spirituality. Wind, rain, thunder and lightning are worshipped as gods, and mountains, land, rivers, plants, trees, and animals also become representatives of the gods. Deities such as Feng Po, Yu Shi, Lei Gong, Electric Mother, Mountain God, Land God, River Bo, Sacred Tree, and Zodiac Signs are not only given names, but also received offerings from people. All this stems from people's reverence for natural phenomena, hoping to maintain tranquility and avoid disasters through reverence.

However, the creation of such deities was not arbitrary, but for a certain utilitarian purpose. In later times, emperors used the gods as tools of theocracy, proclaimed themselves the Son of Heaven, practiced the way of heaven, worshipped the temple every once in a while, and advocated that people should be superstitious about ghosts and gods. As a result, ghosts and spirits have become an indispensable part of people's lives. The gods have the ability to punish evil and promote good, and even some gods are based on heroes in history, civil officials or military generals in reality.

On the other hand, ghosts are a low-level, unseen, shadowy existence. After death, people may become ghosts, and ghosts will haunt people, produce hallucinations, and even endanger people's lives. Therefore, people need to exorcise ghosts with the help of gods or seek the help of mages to fight these ghosts. Behind the scary ghosts, it is actually closely related to theocratic rule, superstitious ideas and utilitarian purposes.

In real life, there are no real ghosts, but people have created ghosts in this concept. The appearance of ghosts is frightening, but in reality, it is only a psychological effect. Some people experience the so-called "ghost hitting the wall" or being haunted by ghosts, but it is actually a kind of psychological hysteria, not a real encounter with a ghost. Ancient science and technology and psychology were not well developed, and there was no knowledge of the existence of ghosts and gods, the principle of intermittent psychotic episodes, etc., so people mistakenly believed that those who had hysteria were haunted by ghosts.

Behind the scary ghosts, there are often some ulterior motives. Some people may not believe in ghosts, but they like to tell ghost stories to scare people, which not only brings excitement to people, but also promotes superstitious thoughts and tries to control others. In the people, some lawbreakers will also use ghosts to frighten people to achieve certain goals. And this kind of behavior is not only scary, but also manipulates others through the creation of ghosts and gods.
