In order to advocate green economy and sustainable development, the Middle East Dubai Energy, Environmental Protection and Water Treatment Exhibition (WETEX) is under the instructions of the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Dubai, and with the full support of Dubai** and the Dubai Supreme Energy Council, hosted by the Dubai Ministry of Water and Electricity (DEWA), focusing on the display of energy, environmental protection, water treatment and other professional technologies and products, and become an excellent platform for exhibitors and visitors from all over the world to share the latest technology and development trends, exchange experience, promote technological innovation and in-depth research on business activities. WETEX is now one of the top three water treatment exhibitions in the world, and has developed into one of the largest and most international professional exhibitions in the Middle East and Africa.
The last edition of the fair covered an area of 73,000 square meters, with 2,100 exhibitors from 53 countries showcasing the latest technologies and products. It attracted more than 35,000 professional visitors to conduct business exchanges and negotiations with exhibitors from various countries on products in the fields of global energy, energy conservation, water conservancy, and environmental protection.
From October 1 to 3, 2024, the Middle East (Dubai) Energy, Environmental Protection and Water Treatment Exhibition will usher in its 26th exhibition, which will attract 50,000 industry elites from more than 50 countries around the world, and the exhibition site will facilitate more than 5,000 B2B gatherings. As a world-class exhibition, WETEX 2024 will bring together professionals from the global energy industry to exchange views with leading organisations and learn about the latest developments in the energy, water and environmental sectors. WETEX will showcase the latest developments in conventional and renewable energy from around the world, featuring business opportunities and potential partnerships to drive business growth.
Market opportunity
Said Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai's Supreme Council for Energy, said Dubai has a practical roadmap for developing a low-carbon economy, which is constantly being adjusted in the implementation process to achieve 100% clean energy for Dubai's electricity** by 2050, as set out in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. To this end, Dubai** plans to invest AED 40 billion over the next five years to develop renewable energy, clean energy, hydropower transmission and distribution networks, etc., to meet Dubai's growing energy demand.
On World Energy Day 2023, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to following a long-term plan for an energy future and reducing emissions. The UAE's Energy Strategy 2050 has been updated to see a 42%-45% improvement in energy efficiency for individuals and organizations compared to 2019. The strategy also seeks to triple the share of renewable energy by 2030 and increase the contribution of clean energy installed capacity to 30% of the total energy mix by 2030. In addition, it aims to achieve fiscal savings of AED 100 billion by 2030 and direct AED 150.2 trillion to national investments to meet energy demand and sustain economic growth in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park, uses an Independent Electricity Producer (IPP) model. By 2030, it plans to use solar photovoltaic panels and concentrated solar power generation with a production capacity of 5,000 MW and a total investment of AED50 billion.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority Chief Executive Officer Saeed Tayer said that Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will continue to follow the principles of practicality and reliability, continuously improve existing efficiency, and provide high-quality, low-consumption services to Dubai's residents.
