In this method, the projector is mounted on the ceiling, and the screen is placed in such a way that the beam of the projector shines onto the screen from behind. This may require some firmware to ensure that the image is displayed correctly when viewing the screen. Rear projection provides large, high-quality images.
There are two types of rear projection setups: passive or active.
In this setting, the screen is coated with reflective material. In order for the person to see the image created in this setup, the projector shines light onto the screen, and then the light is reflected back to the person by the reflective material. In other words, the reflective material acts as an optical amplifier.
One disadvantage of this system is that the image may appear dull without enhancement. On the other hand, it is a cheaper method compared to the active projection setup.
This setup has an integrated light source on the screen. This is the light used to amplify the image from the projector. Objectively, the projection efficiency of the active projection system is higher than that of the passive system.
Thanks to the integrated light source, the active rear projection setup can ultimately produce a better image. As a result, the display looks brighter and more detailed compared to passive settings. This convenience is also reflected in the cost, which means that active setup is more expensive. In addition, they are more difficult to install and set up.
The mechanics of this technology are very simple – a projector is placed behind a screen to display the image. While this is self-explanatory, there are many complex processes that take place inside the projector to produce an image.
