Wang Yuan, whose name is like water, is a native of Qiantang (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang). The date of birth and death is unknown, but there are records in the history of painting, but only some of his experiences in art and a number of classics that have been handed down from generation to generation. For example, the "Bamboo and Stone Gathering of Birds" in the Shanghai Museum, the "Peach, Bamboo and Brocade Chicken" in the Palace Museum, the "Eagle Chasing the Thrush", "Autumn Mountain Travel", "Songting Meeting Friends" in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, and the "Bamboo Bird" flowing to the Osaka Museum of Art in Japan. Wang Yuan's artistic path was initially influenced by the painting theory of Zhao Mengfu, who was the leader at the time. While studying Xi works of the Song Dynasty with artificial brushwork and coloring, he was quite in the style of the academy, and like many painters, under the advocacy of Zhao Mengfu, he bypassed Song painting and traced the so-called source search of the Tang Dynasty and the five dynasties of "Xu Huang Heterogene". Wang Yuan's era coincided with the conflict between inheritance and development, as well as the trade-off between courtyard painting and literati painting, and various genres were presented in a diversified manner in twists and turns.

This "Spring Water Picture" reflects the painter's absorption of the delicate, pure, strict and steady painting style of the Song people, but also has the style of the times that is light and elegant and full of interest in the mainstream of the current dynasty.

Qin Fengnan, an important Japanese antiques dealer, began to enter the antiques dealer in the 70s of the last century, becoming a professional antique dealer, he has helped art institutions and private collectors to acquire masterpieces, and has exerted a strong influence in Japanese and international auctions. Mr. Qin Fengnan has always adhered to the principle that the true beauty inherent in high-quality works does not depend on the academic understanding or background knowledge of the viewer, but is determined through observation and self-evidentness.

In Christie's New York in September 2023, Mr. Qin Fengnan presented 27 exquisite ancient bronzes and ancient porcelain from his personal collection, which can be described as a grand event representing the standards of Japanese antique connoisseurs.

Unique to Joseon, the white-glazed moon pot was produced for only a short time during the Joseon Dynasty (17th-18th centuries) from 1392 to 1910, and may have been used to store grains or liquids. Deceptively simple shapes, bland surfaces, and striking materiality led to its rediscovery by art historians and artists in the 20th century.

This lot is the old collection of Mr. Qin Fengnan, and has high artistic and collection value. This product is flush with width and height, extremely rare, and resembles a full moon. The glaze is not too much decorated, and the whole body is covered with transparent light white glaze, which is quiet and beautiful, but this kind of white is not as good as the white of Sui Bai, Xing Bai, and Dingbai in our country. The moon pot is one of the utensils used by the ancient Joseon royal family and the government, and has now transcended the boundaries of geography and culture, becoming one of the most iconic and influential works of art in modern times, and is also of great significance in the history of Korean ceramics, the development of modern ceramics and the history of global art. Lauded for its luminous white porcelain surface, elegant, gravity-defying proportions, and captivating qualities, the evocative name is the epitome of the much-lauded subtle natural beauty in Korean ceramics.

lot 622Li Dynasty 19th century Gyeongbokgung Palace Hyeongwon Hall plaqueSize: Length 312cm, width 140cm, thickness about 18cmStarting Auction**: 2,000,000 yen

The word Xuanyuan means the deep history of the royal family. The hall was an important place in the royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty to enshrine the portraits of the late kings of the Joseon Dynasty and to perform ancestral worship ceremonies. Its function is equivalent to that of the Chinese Imperial Taimiao, a ceremonial site representing the legitimacy and authority of the monarch, and one of the most sacred and exalted buildings in the palace. In the later period of the Joseon Dynasty, the Xuanwon Hall was damaged and relocated several times due to many reasons such as war, and its fate was uncertain.

There are two Gyeongbokgung Palace palaces that were moved to Japan. One of them, the Okura Jikokan (Shizendo) in Tokyo, collapsed in the Great Kanto Earthquake in September 1923, and its 288 relics were returned to Korea in 1995 through the Samsung Cultural Foundation. The other one was brought back by Masatakeshi Terauchi. Sadly, the palace was destroyed in a typhoon on August 27, 1942. The staff involved in the dismantling could not bear to discard the remains of the palace, so they treasured the symbol of the palace, the plaque and a roof beast, which has since been hidden for a hundred years and is now reborn in the Friends Tea Club.

Masaki Terauchi. Masaki Terauchi (February 24, 1852 – November 3, 1919) was a Japanese military strategist, statesman, field marshal, the 18th Prime Minister of Japan (Prime Minister), and the first governor of the Joseon Shogunate. During his tenure (October 1, 1910 – October 16, 1916), he served as the first governor of Joseon, and when he returned to his hometown of Yamaguchi at the end of his term, he dismantled part of the palace in Gyeongbokgung Palace and moved it back to Japan.
