There is a military horn in the museum that seems to be ordinary but contains mysteries.
The appearance is ordinary, no different from other military horns, no special functions, and after years, the surface is rusty, adding to the vicissitudes of life. But its experience is extraordinary, during the period of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, the volunteer army was in deep trouble, Zheng Qi was in a hurry, and a song of the military horn scared back a battalion of the enemy army, which became a good story.
The bugle lies still, and the story is told. On the Korean battlefield in 1950, the volunteers fought bloodily and launched two large-scale battles, successfully repelling the US-led "United **" and driving them to the "38th parallel" area.
We must cross the 38th parallel, and if we stop north of the 38th parallel, it will cause us a great political disadvantage. ”
** The chairman insisted that no matter how great the difficulties and dangers we face, we should cross the 38th parallel together with the Korean People's Army and carry out a surprise attack on the enemy army. On December 31, 1950, that is, on the eve of the New Year, the Volunteer Army launched a full-scale offensive against the "United **" in the area of the 38th parallel.
At this time, it was a severe winter, and heavy snow fell in the 38th parallel area, and the cold wind was biting, and the Chinese and North Korean troops launched an attack from the front on the 200-kilometer front from the Imjin River in the west to the winter solstice.
The Sino-Korean coalition forces were invincible and had a high fighting spirit, and the enemy's 38-degree defensive position was broken by our army in an instant. Immediately afterwards, the volunteers took advantage of the victory to pursue, bravely marched forward, and launched a fierce attack on Seoul.
At the same time, the pursuing troops marched towards Pugok-ri, trying to cut off the enemy's retreat. Bugok-ri, a little-known town, is 30 kilometers away from Seoul.
However, its geographical location is extremely important and it is an important three-way junction on the road to Seoul. As a result, it has become a battleground for both sides.
The enemy was well aware of the importance of this place, sending elite troops to fight for the high ground and bombarding our troops with artillery. The 347th Regiment of the Volunteer Army was tasked with attacking Seoul, but when it marched to the vicinity of Bugok-ri, it encountered stubborn resistance from the enemy, and there was a thrilling scene.
In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the reconnaissance platoon of the Volunteer Army captured an important intelligence officer. However, our interpreters misunderstood the concept of "wing" in the British army as "company", which led the regimental leadership to despise the enemy situation and send only two companies of troops.
It was only later that it became clear that the enemy situation was serious, and that there was a British wing there equivalent to a regiment of our army. After learning the truth, the 347th Regiment immediately adjusted its strategic deployment and handed over the important task of capturing the Bugok-ri Heights to the Seventh Company, which had 83 officers and soldiers, including the commander Zheng Qi.
On the high ground, heavy British artillery fire poured down like a downpour, striking the 7th Company fiercely. The attack was extremely tragic, and after a lot of hardship, the 7th Company finally came to the foot of the mountain, but the company instructor and deputy company commander died heroically under enemy fire.
However, in the face of such a difficult situation, none of the fighters of the 7th Company flinched, and not a single one was afraid. Wave after wave of attacks, after a hard-fought battle, they finally succeeded in capturing the small heights.
Don't worry, I'm a Communist, I'll take your pistol and continue to command the battle! ”
The company commander handed the pistol to Zheng Qi, Zheng Qi straightened up, and shouted loudly: "Brothers, now the leaders of the company have died heroically, and then I will command it, all the communists must rush to the front, as long as there are people, the position is there!" ”
At that time, the 7th Company had already lost 57 warriors, and only 26 fighters remained in the fight.
After a short break, the British army was unwilling to launch another onslaught on the high ground. Although the first wave of attack was successfully repelled by the 7th Company, the second and third waves of the offensive were still blocked by them.
However, when it came to the third wave of battles, only 17 people remained in the 7 company. Nevertheless, the British did not give up, and they launched a fourth wave of the offensive again, this time more fiercely than any before.
In the face of the surging British army, Zheng Qi firmly said to everyone: "Brothers, the time has come to test us. We must prove with our actions that we are an army that wins glory for the world.
When the British enter our attack range, I order, all light and heavy machine guns aimed at the target, immediately **! Successfully repelled the fourth attack of the British army. ”
After a fierce battle, only 7 soldiers remained in the 7th Company, who had fought against the elite units of the British army, the rifle regiment and the heavy tank battalion, all of them elite, and their combat effectiveness was comparable to that of a Chinese army.
After a morning of fierce fighting, the British troops ceased fire for a while, and the positions fell into silence. However, this tranquility is often a sign of an even bigger storm to come. Under the guidance of Zheng Qi, the soldiers acted in a tense and orderly manner, reinforcing fortifications, digging bunkers, sorting out ammunition, and concentrating superior firepower to prepare for battle in the shortest possible time.
At 3 p.m., the moment of decisive battle came, and the British army was fully armed, determined to occupy the high ground in this battle. In just half an hour, they poured 5000 shells and almost razed the positions of the 7 Company.
After the artillery fire, they sent another battalion and 8 tanks to launch a fierce attack on the high ground. The reason why the British army was so broken was because only by seizing this high ground could it be possible to escape the encirclement of the volunteers.
The 7th Company had only machine guns against the British tanks, and they resisted stubbornly, firing frantically at the enemy, wave after wave. The battle lasted two hours, the 7 companies were almost out of ammunition, the enemy was only 20 meters from the position, and they did not hesitate to throw grenades.
After Zheng Qi finished throwing the grenade, he grabbed the submachine gun and poured out the last bullet, knocking the enemy down one by one. However, the bullets have run out, but the enemy has not flinched and continues to attack the high ground.
At this life-and-death moment, Zheng Qi remembered the company commander's pistol.
Zheng Qi held a gun in his hand, and several bullets knocked down many enemies. But by the time the guns ran out of ammunition, the 7th Company was already starved of ammunition and food. At this time, the enemy not far away was still densely preparing to attack.
There are only 7 people left in the company, and if they do nothing, what awaits them is life and death.
At the critical moment when the position was about to be broken through, Zheng Qi had an idea, took out the military trumpet, stood on the top of the hill and sounded the charge of the volunteer army with all his might. The melodious sound of the military horn boosted the morale of the soldiers of the 7th Company, and at the same time made the enemy fearful.
The British had seen this kind of bugle for a long time, and they knew that once they heard such a melody, it meant that the volunteers were about to charge.
The unique timbre of this instrument, like the spell of an African witch, sounded on the battlefield as if by magic the communist army launched a desperate attack on the coalition forces.
Whenever this happens, the coalition forces will rout like a tidal wave. This is a description by Ridgway (Commander-in-Chief of the "Joint **") in "Memoirs of the Korean War".
At that time, the British army heard a special sound, and it felt like a Chinese funeral. The sound frightened the British, and they froze when they heard the bugle.
At that time, a soldier of the 7th Company was just over 10 meters away from a British soldier, but none of them fired a shot. The soldier of the 7th Company was out of bullets, and the British soldier was so frightened that he couldn't move.
Under the heroic command of Zheng Qi, the British retreated in fear, and several tanks had to turn around and gallop. On the day when the 7th Company held its position, they fought from early morning to evening, and the number of people dropped sharply from 83 to only 7, but they always held on to the end.
In the winter of 1951, Zheng Qi was awarded the title of "Second-Class Combat Hero" by the Volunteer Army Headquarters. Edited by Fanyou.
