As the most talked about new energy vehicle company in the world, Tesla has attracted the attention of countless global users with every new car it launches. Recently, Tesla's fifth model, the Cybertruck, was named the Cyber Wagon and started its first trip to China. It is reported that Tesla announced that it will hold a national tour of Cybertruck on January 28, when it will be unveiled in eight cities at the same time: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xi'an, and Chongqing.

It is reported that the eight cybertrucks exhibited this time were all flown from the United States, and this is the first overseas appearance after its delivery in the United States. According to the official information given by Tesla, the number of orders for the Cybertruck has exceeded 2 million, and many Chinese users have placed orders. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that by 2025, Tesla's Cybertruck production may reach about 250,000 units per year, and according to this production capacity, it will take at least 8 years for Tesla's current order of 2 million Cybertrucks to be fully digested.

Black technology blesses the "new pickup".

In the past, there was a popular saying in motorcycle circles that there are two kinds of motorcycles, one is Harley and the other is other motorcycles. Nowadays, this sentence can also be applied to the field of pickup trucks, which are also divided into two types, one pickup truck is called Tesla Cyber off-road station wagon and the other is other pickup trucks. "More practical than trucks, faster than sports cars" is Tesla's official positioning of the Cybertruck, and the naming of the Cybertruck also reflects Tesla's official belief that the Cybertruck is not only a pickup truck for pulling goods, but also a multi-functional multi-purpose vehicle.

As Tesla's new model, the Cybertruck can be said to be a combination of Tesla's black technology, coupled with its sharp and distinctive exterior design, it has many followers even in China.

From the outside, the Cybertruck is angular and has a triangular roof, like an F117 stealth fighter. The stainless steel exoskeleton body, without any paintwork, and the silver stainless steel primary color body, highlight its rugged and mysterious design features.

It is worth mentioning that the Cybertruck is the world's first production model with a 48V low-voltage architecture, and its entire body and glass are bulletproof. The large body size of 5885*2027*1905mm and the ultra-long wheelbase of 3800mm make the Cybertruck have a huge body that is better than that of full-size pickups, and the riding space and cargo space have unparalleled performance.

In terms of performance, the three-motor version of the Cybertruck can accelerate to 100 km/h27 seconds, and has a towing capacity of nearly 5 tons, with a maximum load of 1134 kg. In order to highlight the powerful performance of the Cybertruck, in one test, a Cybertruck still accelerated faster than a Porsche 911 when towing a Porsche 911, which shows that the Cybertruck even surpasses the average supercar in terms of power.

In addition, the Cybertruck can also take users to experience more poetry and distance, and take users to appreciate more natural scenery. It is reported that the Cybertruck is the first production car in history to realize steer-by-wire, and the dual-motor "redundant design" replaces the physically connected steering structure to achieve safer and smarter steering control. It is also equipped with rear-wheel steering, and the body of over 5.8 meters has the turning radius of a B-segment car. In the face of off-road and rough road conditions, the Cybertruck can rely on longer suspension travel and superior power attributes to go up and down the river as if it were on the ground.

Franz von Holzhausen, head of design at Tesla, said, "Cyber off-road wagons can be like a Swiss army knife, integrating all the features, and you can load accessories on the car for a wealth of features. With these accessories, we want to be able to give Cyber Tourer owners a unique experience. ”

Getting started in China is difficult

Unfortunately, such a powerful cyber wagon seems to be out of step with the Chinese market, and Chinese users are more likely to miss out on it, because the current laws and regulations in force in China make the Tesla Cybertruck not even legal for use in China. In this regard, even Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, said: "It will be difficult for the Cybertruck electric pickup truck to be legal on the road in China, but at present, we can bring some prototypes for you to show." ”

Many people may question that although many cities in China have indeed implemented some traffic regulations for pickup truck models, there are still some urban and rural roads that are open to pickup truck models, so why is Tesla's Cybertruck still not in compliance with the law on the road in China?

In fact, one of the main reasons is that the Tesla Cybertruck does not comply with some laws and regulations on pedestrian protection for motor vehicles in China. Among them, China's law stipulates that the front bumper and hood of a motor vehicle must have an energy-absorbing effect, so that the personal safety of the victim can be effectively protected in the event of a collision with non-motor vehicles and pedestrians. However, the front part of the Tesla Cybertruck is made of stainless steel, and the near-right-angle exterior design does not comply with China's safety regulations. In addition, this motor vehicle safety regulation is not only exclusive to China, but also has this safety regulation in the European market. Therefore, the Tesla Cybertruck is not only not roadable in China, but also in Europe.

So is the Tesla Cybertruck completely out of the reach of Chinese users? In fact, it is not hopeless. As mentioned earlier, Tesla's Cybertruck orders have been scheduled for 8 years, and it can be seen that the production capacity of Tesla's Texas factory alone will definitely not be able to meet the order volume of the Cybertruck, so it is urgent for Tesla to establish new production lines in more factories.

In view of the fact that the Shanghai Tesla Gigafactory is currently one of the most efficient factories in the world, and Tesla has always hoped to continue to expand the scale of the Shanghai factory, it is not ruled out that Tesla will add a new Cybertruck production line at the Shanghai Gigafactory in the future. In order to better respond to the requirements of motor vehicle safety regulations in markets such as Europe and China, Tesla is likely to adjust the production process of the Cybertruck, such as redesigning the front part of the vehicle and using energy-absorbing materials. In addition, there are rumors that Tesla may redesign the rear body of the Cybertruck and connect it with the rear compartment, so that it can even convert its pickup truck model positioning to meet the requirements of SUV regulations, so as to circumvent the ban and purchase restrictions on pickup trucks in many cities in China.

However, these are still speculations, after all, whether it is investing in a new production line or redesigning the body that meets the regulations, it will require a huge capital investment, and Tesla has not released any plans at present, so the Tesla Cybertruck will not have a chance to participate in the Chinese market in a short period of time.

Since its release in November 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck has been in the spotlight. After several rounds of ticket jumping, Tesla's "car of the future" finally began official deliveries in the United States in December 2023. According to Tesla's official website in the United States, the Tesla Cybertruck currently has three versions: rear-wheel drive version, all-wheel drive version and beast version, priced at $49,890 (about RMB 35.)60,000 US dollars (about 49150,000 yuan) and 96,390 US dollars (about 68 yuan.)770,000 yuan). In terms of price, the Tesla Cybertruck is still very attractive, and if it can solve the regulations and pickup restrictions, it will definitely have a place in the Chinese market.
