Chile's "Finance**" said on January 29**, the Chilean Investment Promotion Agency (Investchile) released data showing that in 2023, Chile attracted 335 foreign investment0.5 billion US dollars, of which 103 investment projects have been implemented, with an investment of 147$1.6 billion, creating 5,936 jobs. Compared to 2022, the total number of projects decreased from 476 to 450, but the total investment increased by 182%。In terms of categories, foreign investment in Chile mainly flows to the energy sector (159US$1.1 billion), mining (8.1 billion$7.5 billion) and services ($58.8$6 billion). In terms of countries, the top three investment countries are the United States (99$1.3 billion), Canada (5.3 billion$2.9 billion) and China (4.2 billion0.5 billion US dollars).
Karla Flores, director general of Investchile, said that in the context of the global investment slowdown, the increase in the amount of foreign investment absorbed by Chile is undoubtedly good news, reflecting the confidence of international investors in Chile and the attractiveness of Chile as an investment destination, especially in terms of energy transition and climate change mitigation. In addition, foreign investors have shown interest in projects to produce and add value in Chile, such as the US$95 million acquisition of a 120,000-hectare lithium salt lake concession by France's Eramet, and the US$500 million investment in lithium-related projects by China's BYD and Yongqing Technology Co.
