I have heard of the wandering gods, which is mainly popular in Fujian, Taiwan and other places of folk traditional activities.
Usually held on the first lunar month, the second month of the lunar calendar, or the birthday of the gods, the purpose of which is to pray to the gods to bless the local weather with good weather, abundant crops, and the health of the people.
In the activity of wandering gods, there are five great sons, these five sons are: Huaguang Dashizi, Zhang Shizi, Zhao Shizi, Jinlong Prince and Wen Zhuangyuan.
These sons are regarded as god-like beings in folk beliefs, and have a special background identity and a reason for being revered.
01 Huaguang Dashizi
Also known as King Huaguangzun, Marshal Lingguan Ma, etc., it is one of the important deities in Taoism and folk beliefs. He is regarded as the embodiment of the god of fire, capable of expelling ** and protecting the people.
In the event of a wandering god, the prince of Huaguang is usually carried to the front of the procession to show his majesty and sacredness.
02 Zhang Shizi
Also known as Zhang Tianshi, Zhang Zhenren, etc., he is an important figure in Taoism. He is revered as the founder of the "Way of the Righteous Alliance", which can ward off evil spirits and keep the people safe.
In the activities of the gods, Zhang Shizi is usually made into a statue or portrait of a god and is worshiped by the local people.
03 Zhao Shizi
Also known as Zhao Xuantan, Zhao Gongshuai, etc., it is the god of wealth in Taoism and folk beliefs. He is regarded as a god in charge of wealth and fortune, able to bring wealth and good fortune to people.
During the Wandering Spirits, Zhao Shizi was usually carried in a procession, and people would pray to him for good fortune and a successful career.
04 Golden Dragon Prince
Also known as the dragon prince, dragon god, etc., it is the god of the water tribe in folk beliefs. He was regarded as a god in charge of the waters and the weather, and was able to keep fishermen and sailors safe.
In the Wandering Spirits, the Golden Dragon Prince is usually made in the image of a dragon head and a human body, and the parade is accompanied by gongs, drums and dragon dances.
05 Wen Zhuangyuan
Also known as Emperor Wenchang, Emperor Zitong, etc., it is the god of studies and examinations in folk beliefs. He is regarded as a symbol of wisdom and learning, and can bless students with academic success and gold list titles.
During the event, Wen Zhuangyuan is usually carried in a procession, and students pray to him for academic progress and success.
On the one hand, the reason why these five sons are worshipped by people is that they have a special life status and sacred duty in folk beliefs, and can bring good luck, wealth, peace and wisdom to people.
On the other hand, it also reflects the local people's respect for and inheritance of history and culture, as well as their expectations and visions for a better life.
