He joined the Communist Party of China in April 1987 and holds an on-the-job postgraduate degree, a master's degree in management for senior executives, and an accountant. He used to be Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Rural Credit Cooperatives Association.
On February 23, 2024, Wei Jiagan was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and was subject to disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
On February 23, 2024, Wei Jiagan, former secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Rural Credit Cooperatives, accepted the disciplinary review and supervision investigation of the Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision on suspicion of serious violations of discipline and law. This incident not only exposed the loopholes in the internal supervision of the financial system, but also sounded the alarm bell of anti-corruption again.
As an executive of the Rural Credit Cooperatives, Wei Jiagan should have set an example and strictly abided by party discipline and state law, but he used the power in his hands to violate discipline and law, seriously damaging the reputation of the rural credit cooperatives and the interests of the vast number of peasants. This incident is not only a severe punishment for Wei Jiagan personally, but also a profound warning to the entire rural credit cooperative system.
From the Wei Jiagan case, we can see the seriousness and complexity of corruption in the financial sector. As an important financial institution serving the "Three Rural Areas", rural credit cooperatives bear the important task of supporting agricultural development and rural construction. However, some lawless elements have taken advantage of their power to trade power for money and transfer interests, seriously undermining the fairness and order of the financial market.
The investigation and handling of the Wei Jiagan case has demonstrated our party's zero-tolerance attitude toward corruption and its determination to resolutely crack down on corruption. By strengthening intra-party supervision, improving laws and regulations, and strengthening regulatory measures, we can effectively curb the spread of corruption in the financial sector and ensure the healthy and stable development of the financial market.
At the same time, we should also realize that the struggle against corruption is a long-term and arduous task. We cannot let our guard down because of a momentary victory, let alone bias the entire financial system because of individual cases. On the contrary, we should adopt a more open and inclusive mindset to strengthen reform and innovation in the financial sector, and promote the more transparent, efficient and safe operation of the financial system.
The Wei Jiagan case provides us with an opportunity for reflection and learning. We should draw lessons from this, strengthen supervision and self-discipline in the financial sector, improve the internal control mechanism, and raise the legal awareness and professional ethics of practitioners. Only in this way can we ensure the healthy and stable development of the financial system and make greater contributions to the sustained prosperity of the economy and society.
In short, the investigation and handling of the Wei Jiagan case is a powerful blow to corruption in the financial sector and is also a profound warning to the entire rural credit cooperative system. We should be more determined and more effective to push forward the anti-corruption struggle in the financial sector to achieve new victories.
