According to China's current household registration regulations, children can settle with their parents or with their parents. If the parents are not married, the child can settle in one of two ways:
1.Settle down in the place where the mother's household registration is located
Both parents should go to the police station where the child's mother's household registration is located to declare their settlement and provide the following materials:
Medical certificate of the child's birth.
Original and photocopy of ID cards of both parents.
Original and photocopy of the mother's household register.
If both parents are not in the same place of residence, proof of marital status of both parents (such as unmarried certificate, divorce certificate, etc.) is also required
2.Settle down in the place where the father's household registration is located
Both parents should go to the police station where the child's father's household registration is located to declare their settlement and provide the following materials:
Medical certificate of the child's birth.
Original and photocopy of ID cards of both parents.
The original and photocopy of the father's household register.
Paternity test report.
The specific handling process
Prepare the required materials.
Go to the household registration window of the police station to declare and settle down.
After the household registration police review the materials, they will go through the settlement procedures on the spot.
Precautions
If a child born out of wedlock settles down, both parents need to go to the police station together.
If both parents are unable to go to the police station together, they can entrust another person to handle it on their behalf, but they need to provide a power of attorney and other relevant materials.
There is no fee for children born out of wedlock.
