Russia embarked on an upgrade of the Thor air defense system in order to strengthen the country's defense system

As the threat of enemy drones to Russian territory grows, Russia is revisiting and strengthening its defense strategy. Against this background, the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Kupol" (part of the Almaz-Antey VKO Group) announced that it will carry out a comprehensive modernization of the "Thor" family of anti-aircraft missile systems in order to upgrade the country's defense and security system.

According to a source in the Ministry of Defense, strengthening the country's defense capability is considered an urgent and necessary task, despite the fact that the vast majority of enemy drones are currently successfully intercepted when approaching Russian territory. Therefore, the "Kupol" plant plans to carry out a series of overall improvements to the "Thor" air defense system, with a view to significantly increasing its combat effectiveness and making it a leader in the Russian security system.

The general director of the enterprise, Fanil Ziyatdinov, elaborated on this transformation plan in an interview with the magazine "National Defense". He recalled that 10 years ago, the plant successfully developed the unique Torm2U air defense system, and today four versions of the Torm2 complex have rolled off the assembly line. Speaking about the future, Ziyatdinov revealed that the team is working on the next deep modernization of the Tor family of air defense systems. He stressed that this promising short-range anti-aircraft missile system will make a qualitative leap in combat and combat capabilities, and the differences from existing models will be even more significant than the differences between the Tor-M2 and Tor-M1.

In parallel with the renovation program, the Kupol plant will continue to operate normally and accelerate the pace of development in the field of technical equipment and research and development. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the "Thor" air defense missile system, as a short-range air defense system, is specifically designed to protect ground forces from a variety of air threats, including anti-radar and cruise missiles, gliding bombs, aircraft, **, as well as UAVs, etc. When working in concert with stationary air defense systems, it is capable of effectively intercepting and destroying the latest enemy UAVs.

Russia has built a complete defense system, which consists of a variety of advanced air defense systems, including the TOR air defense system, the S-350, S-400 Triumph, and the latest S-500 Prometheus air defense system. Together, these systems form a formidable air defense line in Russia!
