Recently, the school released the final exam results, and the results were confusing for students, teachers, and tutors. Some parents reported that their students' scores remained between 70 and 80 without attending make-up classes before. However, after seven days of intense make-up classes a week, the scores of all three subjects in this final exam dropped to more than 60 points, leaving the make-up teachers confused, and they couldn't believe that the students' grades could be so low. This situation not only bothered the students, but also put the teachers and tutors in a situation where they could not cope.
Some teachers decided to study the final examination papers of these pilot schools in their spare time, and found that the direction of education was changing, in line with the recent trend of the joint examination in the nine provinces. In the past, exams focused primarily on memorizing concepts, solving puzzle templates, and routines, through which students still achieved high scores. However, by studying the final exam papers of the pilot schools, we found that the future direction of the exam will become more difficult. This is not only challenging for students, but also for teachers and tutors. From the papers of this final exam, we found several aspects that are different from the previous ones. The main ones are as follows:
Reading becomes the core of the assessment.
In many junior high school Chinese test papers, the test paper usually connects the whole story through a long essay, and the questions appear in this essay. For students, if the amount of reading is insufficient, or the reading comprehension skills are insufficient, then it will become extremely difficult to do the questions. As a result, the number of views will be a key indicator in future assessments.
2.The rise of interdisciplinary examinations.
Recent final exam papers have shown a trend of interdisciplinary joint questioning. For example, mathematics questions may be written in classical Chinese, while Chinese papers may involve general knowledge of physics. This practice tests students' learning ability and understanding of interdisciplinary knowledge.
From the above two points, it can be seen that in the past, the exam mainly focused on knowledge and problem solving methods, and you can master the summary question types and solve difficult problems through make-up classes. However, future exams will focus more on students' thinking and learning abilities. Knowledge points are no longer the main direction of investigation, but turn to the actual learning ability of students.
Some parents complain that compulsory education is free of charge, but the content learned is not included in the examination. This raises the question of whether the textbook content needs to be reformed or the test questions should be developed that go beyond the scope of the textbook. The reality is that the knowledge examined does not go beyond the scope of the textbook, but focuses more on the students' thinking and analytical skills. Therefore, the ultimate goal is to examine the student's ability to think and learn.
Although some parents believe that China needs to reform higher education, advocating for a wide range of entry and strict exit, they believe that high school and college are the time when people are at their smartest, and that young children should not be challenged. However, the direction of talent selection is changing, and we support the early selection of talent. This reflects the change in Chinese society towards the way education is conducted, and the role of teachers should be weakened and students' self-learning ability should be strengthened. Therefore, the ultimate goal is still to examine the student's ability to think and learn.
In the face of these changes, parents and students should not feel anxious, let alone complain. We need to embrace change and adapt to the changes we have now. The ultimate purpose of the study is to assess students' thinking and learning ability, because society requires us to constantly learn and adapt to new knowledge. So let's open our hearts and embrace this change together!
