Astound! Wrath! Disappointed! This is the strong feeling of the international community that the United Nations Security Council has once again rejected the draft resolution calling for an immediate and humane ceasefire in Gaza because of the US vote. In the vote on February 20, local time, 13 countries voted in favor, and the United Kingdom chose to abstain, but the United States vetoed the resolution with one vote.
The draft resolution, sponsored by Algeria, calls on all parties to immediately respect the humanitarian ceasefire, rejects violations of international law, calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and guarantees humanitarian access. However, the U.S. veto frustrated that call once again, and the world's frustration and anger over the Security Council boiled over.
Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, voted in favor of the vote and issued a strong statement expressing strong dissatisfaction and disappointment at the US veto. He pointed out that the results of the vote clearly showed that the Security Council was not lacking consensus, but was thwarted by the exercise of the veto by the United States. Such behaviour not only sends the wrong signal, but also exacerbates the crisis of the situation in Gaza.
Now, the conflict in Gaza has claimed the lives of nearly 30,000 civilians, and the international community's call for an end to this tragedy is growing stronger. However, the U.S. veto has left this call indifferent. Zhang Jun urged Israel to stop its offensive on Gaza and lift the collective punishment of the Palestinian people, and called on the international community to unite and fight for a chance for the people of Gaza to survive and bring peace to the entire Middle East region.
This is not just a conflict about Gaza, it's a battle for humanity and justice. Now, we urgently need global solidarity to put an end to this catastrophe and to uphold human dignity and justice. May every voice be a force to bring the sunshine of peace to the land of Gaza and the innocent people who have been devastated by the war to a new life!
