According to U.S. news, the U.S. semiconductor program is undergoing its second funding and will soon enter the third funding. According to Raimondo, subsidies are also received by a number of large semiconductor equipment manufacturers such as Intel, TSMC, and Samsung.
However, at the same time as Raimondo's statement, Intel also announced the extension of the plans of one of its semiconductor companies in the United States. Some speculate that Intel may be putting pressure on the U.S. by delaying its subsidy policy. In a sense, if it had not received subsidies from the semiconductor industry, Intel would probably have abandoned its factory in the United States.
However, a statement from the United States put Intel in a dilemma.
According to the United States, Samsung's production base in Tyler, Texas, will be officially put into operation in July 2024 during a chip conference held in South Korea, with a total investment of 17 billion US dollars (equivalent to more than 120 billion yuan). At the same time, according to U.S. reports, Gepp, an a-chip semiconductor company specializing in AI chips and acceleration, recently said that it will use Samsung's 4nm process technology in the United States.
Samsung's development speed is obviously faster than expected. Such a high investment, as well as advanced semiconductor process technology, undoubtedly exerted huge pressure on Intel, Intel must build a factory in the United States, otherwise, it is likely to be snatched away by Samsung or TSMC, which Intel considers untrustworthy. Because they are fully qualified to produce American chips from the United States, and Samsung has decided to set up a new production base in the United States.
This is also the reason why reporters believe that Intel has been cornered, in fact, even if the United States subsidies for the semiconductor industry have not yet been in place, Samsung, TSMC and other companies are also stepping up production, forcing Intel to speed up the establishment of its own chip factory in the United States. Intel must build a factory in order to start a "tough battle" with TSMC and Samsung.
And Intel is unlikely to do anything about the chip law promulgated by the United States without ** subsidies. Originally, in this case, Intel had a better chance. But the problem is that Samsung has no intention of doing this, otherwise they would not have announced the 4 nm process. Although TSMC is not building factories in the United States, the production capacity of other countries is getting bigger and bigger.
With TSMC's strength, even if they don't cooperate with semiconductor factories in the United States, they can take away a large part of the shares from Intel. Therefore, in the eyes of the author, Intel may have no way out, and even if it is unwilling, it must be built. Intel is not building a factory here because they want to speed up the U.S. semiconductor industry policy. However, judging from the current situation, Intel is obviously at a disadvantage.
So, do you think that Samsung's project will soon land in the United States, and Intel will be nervous about it? For this, please leave a message, comment, like, share here!
