hi, everyone.
Hello everyone. i'm diane brady.
I'm Diane Brady.
i'm here with my colleague, louisa kroll, executive editor, all things wealth.
I came with my colleague Louisa Kroll, the executive editor of All Things Wealth.
hi, louisa.
Hi Luisa.
we're talking about rihanna.
We are talking about Rihanna.
well, actually, it's rihanna.
Well, actually, she's Rihanna.
rihanna.
Rihanna. everybody corrects me all the time when i say rihanna.
When I say Rihanna, everyone corrects me.
and it's only because, you know, i've edited several stories on her over the years.
It's just because, you know, I've edited a couple of stories about her over the years.
and i looked it up and i listened to her talk about it one time.
I looked it up, and once I heard her talk about it.
and, you know, she's very chill.
And, you know, she's very cold.
she doesn't care if you call her rihanna, rihanna.
She doesn't care if you call her Rihanna, Rihanna.
susan, suzanne, rihanna, rihanna.
Susan, Susanna, Rihanna, Rihanna.
exactly, exactly.
Exactly. potato, potatoe, but it is rihanna.
Potatoes, potatoes, but this is Rihanna.
rihanna fenty.
Rihanna Fenty.
we know her last name is fenty.
We know her surname is Fenty.
she doesn't combined it.
She didn't combine it.
it would be robin fenty.
It's going to be Robin Fenty.
that would be robin fenty or rihanna.
It will be Robin Fenty or Rihanna.
and she is what we do know is that she's doing the super bowl halftime show, which is interesting because the last album she dropped was 2016. so we're talking about
What we do know is that she's doing the Super Bowl halftime show, which is funny, because the last one she released was in 2016. So we're talking.
am i right?
Am I right? is she the first billionaire to ever play as an artist?
Is she the first billionaire to play as an artist?
definitely.
Truly. she is definitely the first billionaire to ever get up on stage.
She was definitely the first billionaire to take to the stage.
so that's going to be a lot of fun.
So it's going to be fun.
but the person that's probably most responsible for getting her back on that stage is jay-z, who is also a billionaire, but he's behind the scenes.
But the most responsible person to get her back on stage is probably Jay-Z, who is also a billionaire, but he's behind the scenes.
it's his rock nation that's, you know, putting on the super bowl show.
You know, his rock country is putting on a Super Bowl show.
and they've been doing that for a number of years now.
And they've been doing it for years.
so let's talk about where she gets her wealth from at this point, because she's got the beauty line, she's got luxury clothing, lingerie.
So let's talk about the wealth she is getting from ** now because she has a beauty line, she has luxury clothes, lingerie.
how much of it actually comes from music?
How many of them are actually from?
well, let's just say that we don't count any of her music, you know, in her fortune.
Well, let's just say that we don't count any ** of her in her wealth.
none.None.
is it still, it's 1.4 billion, right?
It's still 1.4 billion, right?
well, we right now estimate her around 1.4 billion.
Well, we now estimate that she is worth about 1.4 billion.
you know, could she h**e a little bit more that's from the music?
You know, can she listen a little more?
maybe.
Maybe. the vast majority of her fortune comes from fenty beauty.
The vast majority of her wealth comes from Fenty Beauty.
she actually started that beauty line in 2017. so right around the time that she, you know, pulled away from music for at least a while.
She actually started this beauty line in 2017. So just when she's away from ** at least for a while.
and that's a partnership with lvmh conglomerate.
This is a partnership with the LVMH Group.
you know, they're behind moet & chandon, louis vuitton.
You know, they are behind Moet & Chandon and Louis Vuitton.
it's basically run by the world's richest person, bernard arnault.
It is basically run by Bernard Arnault, the richest man in the world.
he's been trading places with elon musk for the last...he's held on for a few weeks now.
He swapped places with Elon Musk for the last time. He's been holding on for a few weeks now.
so bernard arnault is right now the richest by, you know, a kind of sizable margin.
So Bernard Arnault is the richest man right now, you know, he's quite a big gap.
musk is finally starting to pick back up, but we'll see with that.
Musk is finally starting to recover, but we'll see.
but, you know, he wooed rihanna and got her to, you know, do this partnership.
But, you know, he courted Rihanna and asked her, you know, to do this partnership.
she owns 50%.
She owns 50% of the shares.
the sales h**e been doing very well.
Sales performance has been very good.
sales actually doubled in the past year.
Sales actually doubled last year.
we're not entirely sure.
We're not entirely sure.
this is for the cosmetic line.
This is for the cosmetic line.
for the cosmetic line.
For cosmetic lines.
penty beauty.
Penty Beauty. so that's the largest portion of her wealth.
So that's the biggest part of her wealth.
yes.Yes.
what about the lingerie?
What about underwear? her lingerie, we figure, is probably worth around $300 million.
We estimate that her underwear could be worth around $300 million.
again, it's lingerie, it's done incredibly well.
Again, it's lingerie, very well done.
you know, she raised money at a billion valuation, but it is about a third or no, actually probably more like a fourth the value of the beauty line at this point.
You know, she raised money at a $1 billion valuation, but that's about a third or less of the value of the beauty product line, and it might actually be more like a quarter of the value of the beauty product line.
but both, i mean, you know, to be her age, to h**e this kind of success in two different businesses when really she made her name initially in music is just really kind of unheard of.
But I mean, you know, at her age, having been so successful in two different industries, and she did initially make a name for herself in the field, which is really unheard of.
yeah, she's one of, i think, last i checked, i don't know if she's the second or third, but she's certainly one of the top selling female artists of all time.
Yes, I think she's one of them, I don't know if she's second or third, but she's certainly one of the best-selling female artists of all time.
i believe so.
I believe so.
i don't, i know we're, when we look at the super bowl halftime shows, since we're talking about wealth, i know that one does not get paid to do these shows, but we've heard, you know, a little bit of rumbling about actually paying.
I don't, I know us, when we watch the Super Bowl halftime show because we're talking about wealth, I know people don't get paid to do these shows, but we've heard, you know, some complaints about the actual payments.
when you h**e somebody like rihanna, is she likely to be putting any money into this show?
When you have someone like Rihanna, is she likely to put any money into this show?
i mean, there's got to be some cross promotional opportunities.
I mean, there has to be some crossover opportunities.
my guess is that she probably isn't directly.
My guess is that she may not be direct.
you know, we've done this every year where we've kind of looked at, you know, who the super bowl performer is, what they're getting from it, the fact that they're not really getting paid anything.
You know, we do that every year, and we look at who the Super Bowl performers are, what they get out of it, and they don't actually get paid anything.
and over the years, i mean, that's included everybody from jlo to lady gaga.
Over the years, I mean, that includes everyone from JLO to Lady Gaga.
and the weeknd was the only one that, you know, kind of said to us, actually, i'm putting in several million.
The Weeknd was the only company that said to us, in fact, that I invested millions of dollars.
most of the time, they're pretty tight lipped about it.
Most of the time, they are tight-lipped about it.
the big brand that's sponsoring it.
The big brands that sponsor it.
so pepsi did it for years, and this is going to be the first year that apple music is paying for it.
So Pepsi has been doing this for years, and this will be the first year that Apple Music has paid for it.
but i imagine this is going to be quite a spectacle, so it'll be interesting to see exactly where the money's coming from.
But I guess it's going to be a big event, so it will be interesting to know where the money is coming from.
not that they'll ever share it with us, but i'm sure apple is putting quite a lot of money in, and she certainly has the money if she wanted to or needed to.
Not that they will share it with us, but I'm sure Apple has invested a lot of money, and she certainly has the money if she wants it or needs it.
let me ask you a question about why you don't count her music as part of her will.
Let me ask you a question, why don't you count her ** as part of her will.
i mean, it's just so small.
I mean, it's too small.
it's around an era.
About an era.
it's not that we don't or wouldn't.
That's not to say we don't or won't.
it's just kind of too small when you're talking about how big the rest is.
It's a little too small when you talk about how big the rest are.
and we should probably, i mean, again, you know, maybe take it into account, you know, with all of these numbers, you know, we know that she owns 50%.
I mean, we should probably think about that again, you know, with all these numbers, you know, we know that she owns 50 percent.
we've been told that they do not break down what exactly the revenues are.
We were told that they did not elaborate on the specifics of the income.
so to be kind of conservative, we don't, we don't kind of, you know, push it up as far as we could, you know, she could be worth more like 1.5, or, you know, even 2 billion, depending on how aggressive people
So be conservative, we didn't, we didn't, you know, push it up as much as you can, you know, she's probably worth more, like 1Five, or, you know, even two billion, depending on how aggressive people are.
are about that fenty beauty valuation and whether lvmh would ever sell it, which i don't think they would.
Regarding Fenty Beauty's valuation and whether LVMH will ** it, I don't think they will.
but how much of the, is it rare to get a lot of wealth from the music itself?
But how many of them, from the ** itself to get a lot of wealth is rare?
i mean, obviously you can own the rights.
I mean, obviously you can have those rights.
you can get a lot more.
You can get so much more.
so she's just come into it more.
So she just got into it more.
it's just she hasn't really produced anything in a number of years.
It's just that she hasn't really made anything in years.
2016. yeah, 2016. i mean, taylor swift, beyonce, you know, these are all women that are on our list of self-made women.
In 2016. Yes, 2016. I mean, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, you know, these are all women on our list of self-made women.
it's a list that we started because
We started this list because:
we were quite frankly getting tired of just seeing old white men on our billionaires list.
Frankly, we're tired of seeing old white people on our billionaire lists.
and i said, why don't we start looking, why do we create this one billion barrier?
I said, why don't we start looking, why are we creating these billion obstacles?
let's start looking at just really successful women and seeing, putting a price tag on it or putting a valuation on it.
Let's start looking at women who are truly successful and labeling them or valuing them.
and that's when we started to dig into, you know, some of these artists and their number of them that are on it.
That's when we started digging into some of these artists and their numbers.
and, you know, they do get it from their earnings and they get it from touring.
And, you know, they do get that from revenue and touring.
and i expect both taylor swift and beyonce to continue to move up those ranks.
I expect both Taylor Swift and Beyoncé to continue to move up those rankings.
but again, i mean, nobody has had the entrepreneurial success that rihanna has had to this point.
But I would say that so far, no one has achieved as much entrepreneurial success as Rihanna.
and obviously very much still an anticipated show.
Obviously, it's still a show to look forward to.
you know, we don't need new music.
You know, we don't need new **.
she's got a pretty deep catalog of hits we'd love to hear.
She has a lot of hits that we want to hear.
so look forward to it.
So stay tuned.
thanks for joining us.
Thank you for joining us.
thank you.
Thank you. thanks for h**ing me.
Thank you for having me.
